'NZA'

Post by Arcalane »

Little is known about these vessels or their owners. They bear little in the way of identifying markings, or any attempt to denote ownership. They are slow to maneuver, yet turn quickly. They are extremely durable, almost to the point of being invulnerable. In their death throes, they unleash a series of mighty explosions that reduce all remnant of their ships to scorched and charred debris. Long range scans of their vessels have yielded no useful insights into their contents, and their home territory appears to be an incredibly dense and exceptionally inimicable nebula -- yet they do not seem to seek to take habitable planets from others, nor do they possess much interest in prisoners. Attempts to communicate have been met with silence.

They have been termed the 'NZA' after markings scrawled upon the hull of one of the largest vessels encountered. Known armaments include Green Lasers and a currently-unidentified plasma-based direct-fire area-blast device.

UNIQUE EQUIPMENT
Spoiler!
Plasma Blaster
Projecting a compressed plasma charge at middling velocities, the plasma blaster is a powerful short-range area-blast weapon. It is utilized somewhat like an unguided torpedo, usually in fixed mounts, although a rare few larger NZA ships are suspected to mount plasma blaster turrets. Like lasers, Plasma Blasters come in Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet colours. The NZA ships seen thusfar use Green Plasma Blasters.

Standard Drive Cores
All NZA ships use a set of individually-assembled drive cores. There are four known variants - double, small double, triple, and small triple. It is suspected that larger vessels have their own massive drive cores.
Double - Double Drive Cores are highly maneuverable but have poor acceleration and top speed due to the weight of the ships they must propel.
Triple - Triple Drive Cores have acceptable acceleration and top speed, without loss of maneuverability. Fortunately, their high power demands seem to ensure that Triple Drive Core ships mount less weaponry.

Unstable Cores
All NZA ships suffer violent chain-reactions when their cores are breached. The larger the ship, the larger and deadlier the explosion.

IMPORTANT BALANCE NOTICE:
NZA ships have a much lower section density than many other faction ships, and thus may seem to have disproportionately high Core HP values at first glance.

NZA Destroyer-class warship, UF Reporting Name 'Zircon'

Size: 70.52
Core HP: ???
Speed: ???
Acceleration: ???
Turning: ???
AI Range: ???
AI Type: ???
Drive Core: Small Double
Armaments:
1x Twin MGreen Laser Turret
2x MGreen Laser Turret
2x Green Plasma Blaster Tube (Fire-Linked)

The Zircon is a formidable opponent, thanks to its especially heavy armour and twin plasma blaster tubes. However, without these easily-targeted weapons, it frequently lacks the firepower to punch through heavy armour unless it has a serious numbers advantage.

United Factions Combat Report: Like all NZA ships, the Zircon is incredibly durable, but has very poor top speed. This is primarily because it utilizes a Small Double Drive Core. Beware the powerful Plasma Blaster tubes.

NZA Destroyer-class warship, UF Reporting Name 'Ziggurat RC' / RECON CONFIGURATION

Drive Core: Triple
Armaments:
Unverified/Intelligence Outdated

The Ziggurat is believed to be a light patrol and reconaissance frigate/gunship, and possibly one of the fastest NZA ships - as evidenced by its use of the oversized Triple Drive Core. Its armament, however, is quite light. Though it has good coverage, the Ziggurat's weapons likely only pose a threat to smaller ships, and it has no real anti-capital weaponry.

United Factions Combat Report: Unlike most NZA ships, the Ziggurat RC is deceptively fast - but its lack of firepower leaves it able to do little in major fleet battles. Unfortunately, where these are found, other NZA ships are soon bound to follow.

NZA Destroyer-class warship, UF Reporting Name 'Ziggurat AC' / ASSAULT CONFIGURATION
Image
Size: 77.28
Core HP: ???
Speed: ???
Acceleration: ???
Turning: ???
AI Range: ???
AI Type: ???
Drive Core: Triple
Armaments:
3x Green Assault Laser
4x Green Plasma Blaster Tube (Fire-Linked)

This variant of the Ziggurat should not be mistaken for its recon-configured brother. The Assault Configuration packs three rapid-firing, fast-tracking Assault Lasers that put out a constant stream of fire as opposed to the shorter bursts of conventional laser turrets, on top of a quad-rack of Plasma Blasters that can unleash a devastating barrage of anti-capital firepower.

Unlike the recon-configuration, however, this version of the Ziggurat is much slower, perhaps even slower than the already unwieldy Zircon, despite its oversized drive core. It can easily be recognized thanks to its heavier turrets and distinctive 'hammerhead' prow.

United Factions Combat Report: Do not engage this variant of the Ziggurat head-on, even with overwhelming firepower and heavy armour. Use fast flanking ships to neutralize it safely. Like most NZA ships, the Ziggurat AC's rear quadrant and drive core are undefended.

NZA Cruiser-class warship, UF Reporting Name 'Zachariah'
Image
Size: 105.48
Core HP: ???
Speed: ???
Acceleration: ???
Turning: ???
AI Range: ???
AI Type: ???
Drive Core: Ultra-Heavy
Armaments:
Unknown

A bruiser of a ship recently sighted on maneuvers near the edge of the NZA Territories, the Zachariah's capabilities have yet to be determined. It appears to be heavily armoured and fairly agile, and armed with powerful fixed weaponry. It also appears to possess more sensor systems than the average NZA warship.

Thusly, we believe the Zachariah to be some sort of 'command' or 'officer' ship, used to direct the efforts of lesser ships in its immediate vicinity.

United Factions Combat Report: No data available.

NZA Defensive Installation, UF Reporting Name 'Zariba'
ImageImage
Size: 48.60
Core HP: ???
Speed: N/A
Acceleration: N/A
Turning: N/A
AI Range: N/A
AI Type: N/A
Drive Core: N/A
Armaments:
1x Triple Plasma Blaster Turret (Red or Green)
or
1x Double Plasma Blaster Turret (Blue or Violet)

An exceptionally deadly and well-armoured defensive outpost, the Zariba mounts a heavy Plasma Blaster Turret with either two or three barrels. Two barrels indicates long-range Blue or Violet Plasma Blasters, whilst three barrels indicates short-range Red or Green Plasma Blasters. The triple-barrel turret rotates noticeably faster than the double-barrel variant.

Stay as far away from these things as possible. Their massive Plasma Blaster Turret is capable of punching holes in even the most heavily armoured ships. Use long-range artillery ships to neutralize the triple-barrel variants, and agile close-range ships to neutralize the double-barrel variants.

United Factions Combat Report: The four cylindrical plasma generation/containment structures are suspected to be the Zariba's main weak point. They are well-armoured, but destroying them should cause a sizeable explosion.

Now updated with the Zariba-type Defense Installation.

Careful, they're feisty little things.

COMMUNICATION

So far, no attempts to communicate with the NZA have yielded anything other than static. Their ships move with slow, murderous purpose, but what that purpose is has yet to be determined. In many cases, they lash out at seemingly-irrelevant targets before fading back into their home systems in the inhospitable core sectors. Other times, entire NZA patrol groups have been obliterated without so much as firing a shot, apparently too intent on reaching their goal (despite their poor speeds) to consider returning fire.

Increasingly, rumours have sprung up about ships 'defecting' to their unknown causes. No sightings have yet been confirmed, but all rumours are alarmingly consistent. Defecting ships are stripped of all identifying colours and markings, and no longer respond to communication. In most cases they retain their original weaponry, though some are augmented with Plasma Blaster technology.
