Newbie here with a few questions ^^

Hello everybody :D

First of all I have to say I love the community and everyone who helped it and the game!

So here are a few of my questions...

1. How do you make a realy small ship?Like some sort of fighter.

download/file.php?id=4139

CryoSleep made these little fighters. If I know it right than these are sprites attached to a core right?
The sprites are small and the core is a lot bigger.Or maybe they are just flying turrets with triggers?:P

2. Is there a way to change Dementer drone's sprite?

And are they always facing at their target?

EDIT2:

Deleted third question.(it was about thrusters but I figured them out by myself...lol)

Maybe I will ask more when I find something.

- Sorry for bad english ^^" its not my motherlangue. -

Hi and welcome to the forums!

1. There's several ways. It is possible to resize sections to smaller values, and you could just make a really small ship as such. That's how you make them with sections attached to the core. However, with the fighterbay release we have been making them as single sprites, and that's what Cryosleep actually did. For that, just use an image editing software to make it smaller. Whatever software you choose works.

2. No, there is no current way to do this. Sorry.

If you want to just build a tiny ship without shrinking sections, try these

Games like GSB have been fairly successful at just using cutout images of popular ships and it is equally possible here. I have a collection of some(x-wing, viper, etc) so if you have any requests I'm happy to do it, but they don't tend to look good next to BSF sprites. At that size with some recoloring though, they blend in well enough.

If nothing else you can build a ship, take a screenshot, and turn it into a sprite.

Oh so those fighters are just images? That means I can't use them ingame?:P

Because they seem a lot smaller then the smallest core.In other words the core would be a lot bigger than a little fighter or mabye I just didn't understood it...lol

Thanks for the help so far!

EDIT:
Im so stupid...Sorry for the dump question. After some searching i found out you can resize cores with I/K + Shift :P

Hey guys I got a new question :P

If I got a lot of sections in 1 place, how do I chose one?
For example i got 10 sections right under each other. The only way to reach the first section is to move the others away from the way?

In short, yes.

If you want those sections to be in the same place after you've moved them, just temporarily add 100 or so to the X or Y axis.

Ctrl + click cycles through layered sections.

Okay sorry for bumping this old thread but I got a little problem here...
I have made this little fighter (size of a demeter drone) and my problem with it is that it moves weird.Tried a lot of versions but none of them works as how I want them.I want these fighters to fly around the enemy ship and shoot it while always facing towards their target.

So the actual problem:
They move like they are lagging. They start moving and than when they reach their target they stop without shooting. Its always like taking 1 step ahead and than waiting for 5 seconds. My other problem is that they don't realy face their target. They turn suddenly but than stay at that angle for around 2-3 seconds.I guess the problem is probably with weapon/ship range and something with Accel. turning and speed.

Can anyone help me how to make little fast fighters? Thanks for the help again!

So you want BSG or B5 style where they continue their forward inertia while turning on thrusters? So ya, high turn, decently high speed, low acceleration. The key is to not make them fly sooo far beyond the target that it looks ridiculous. Alternatively, you can keep the turning slightly lower so they turn as they start to head back towards their target. If you can manage it, they basically dogfight with eachother. I've got some ships that work like that so I'll try to find the settings if you can't get them by experimenting.

Thanks for the help.I tried it but didn't work out that great lol.
Could you give me some basic numbers? That would help a lot in future ship making :P

(My versions were...quiet boring.Realy, realy slow movement.)

Here is the temporary version of the fighter.I will probably make it as a single sprite later.
Also which AI mode you suggest?I don't realy want them to just stick to the enemies butt :P
