Reusing BF sprites

Hello guys. I've got a simple question, as far as i know the game is freeware, but with the download i couldn't find any file that was mentioning any kind of license. So i'm askin if you guys know:

1- can i use original BF sprite in my opensource project
2- can i use other people's sprite created with the ship maker in my opensource project?( found in forums)
3- can i use costum created ( i'm a really bad designer ) in my opensource project?

I'm asking this because i really need them and in the project i will of ourse mention and credit the people who deserve it thank you for your time. I'm looking forward to your answer.

All my sprites ('ddc' series) could be considered a Creative Commons license. tl;dr use them, remix them, build a freaking orphanage with them, use them for target practice, or any dang thing else you want! All I care is they be put to use!
