Why some ships have bridges-for all who care

I'm sure you have been wondering "Why in the ####ing world do those stupid ships have bridges?"
Ok I don't thing you thought it like that but I did
Now the whole bridge thing came from the first two world wars.
They put the control center in a tower(bridge) because
1.it elevated the control center so they had longer vision range
2. The guns in the two world wars were inaccurate, so if they stuck the control center in a tower there was less of a chance the center would be hit.
if they stuck it in the center of the ship it would be in more danger as the middle has the highest chance of being hit.
Now in space warfare guns are much more accurate so leaving you command center exposed is a very very bad idea.
Ideally you would want to make a ship with as low a profile as possible to guve the enemy gunners the smallest possible target
My two mints on the matter of bridges
