Guides for ship colouring?

I've had a huge break from BSF, but i'm getting back into it now and i'm trying to improve on my ship building techniques, i remember that i had problems with colouring and depthing (not construction wise, shading wise), are there any guides out there that could help me?

I'm not a total moron, i don't build lego block coloured ships, i'm just not very good at the whole "depth" thing which brings a good ship, up to a very good ship (i think).
If there is one then just a link would be great!

What's complicated about "use several different shades to create a sense of depth and the illusion of three depths, make lower areas darker and higher areas brighter"? How does that need a guide? How would you even make a guide about that, except by doing a step-by-step guide involving lots and lots of screenshots basically making a whole ship?

To be honest, you just explained it there.

I'll give it a go, going on the knowledge i already have:

1. Colour the damn thing grey, all of it.
2. Colour the sections lower down darker, and the higher ones lighter?
3. Pick critical areas of the ship to colour with a proper colour?

Sound alright?

Uh no, not necessarily. You can make ships that aren't grey, but going with greys to start with is a good way to learn to start with.

Pretty much, yeah.
