I've been meaning to download custom sprites for some time now, but want to understand better how to organize, and display them to make shipbuilding easier.
1st;
Is it possible to modify the section sprite .ini directly and have it still function properly?
2nd;
Is it possible to make each group in the shipbuilder display more than 3 across/8 down? (like 5 across/10 down)
3rd;
If I downloaded the SW versions of the stock sprites and rename the downloaded ones to have the same name as their stock counterparts, then replace the stock ones with the SW ones, would any ships I already have built simply display the sprites, or not recognize them?
Before posting this I searched the forum, and studied the .ini in question to see if I could figure anything out on my own. The above questions are the result of said investigation.

1: Yes
2: Yes, but only more down. 3 across is max.
3: I don't think you'll be able to change the stock ships but ships you build with SM that used the stocks sprites should change to TSA style, though noone else will be able to see them that way since noone else replaces their stock sprites.

Just add em to the smsprites.ini (or make a copy, you can tell shipmaker to load another one!)

Thanks again, one other thing, when I looked at the .ini file, after the list of sections for each group there is this line:
secnum = 24
Does this need to be changed or something so it works right?

Realism, seriously? It's a space ship game. Realism was thrown out the window a long time ago.

You should know that it would be much easier to use the Group Arrange function of the ship maker. You would be able to drag and drop the section sprites directly into the window and create a custom .ini that you can load without affecting the default.
