Help with depth
this ISNT meant to be part of a ship, just something to test out depth, is depth making sections below darker and above lighter to create a 3D effect?

Yep, I think you've got it. All you have to do now is apply the same principle to all your other ships
Although, I wouldn't call it a 3d effect, it's more to do with making it look more realistic, as in, what a real ship would look like under proper lighting conditions

that's what a 3d effect is: showing how light affects the appearance of an object. that's all that 3d renderers do; make a flat image by tracing the rays of light (in ray tracer renderers, which are most common), working out how they interact with objects and showing how this affects the appearance. simple
the depthing's alright btw. the only sub-par bit is the two round sections on top; they look like they should be lighter

thanks a lot
