Question about AI range

Okay, so what does the AI range have to do with the ship behavior? I heard it was something like its power source or something like that. please help

AI range is how far the ship will engage the enemy in pixels. For example, a ship with an AI range of 500, will attack the enemy at a range of 500 pixels.
