Shipmaking Q&A

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Easy fix is to place a random section, take the section the 'missing' piece offscreen is parented to, and reparent all its child sections to the random. Then reparent all the visible sections to one you want to keep, and delete the random section. Hope that makes sense.
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
You can look up what section corresponds to what number in your Custom Sprites folder, but you'll have to remember what the offscreen sections looked like.
You don't have to move/hide sections to get to buried ones. Ctrl+click will cycle through all the sections under your cursor.
For glows, the much simpler way is to disable all glows in the BSF options screen. There should be a bar to adjust team colors and things, you can keep clicking it to cycle through the team colors and whatnot until you reach "glow" then just set it to black.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
the 2nd and third numbers on each "nSecA" line represent the sections x and y values, which should be around about 3600 and 3000 respectively. Check through these values and whenever you find something substantially different change it to a more normal value. then save the file, and open it back up in shipmaker.MuDkIp wrote:hi, how do you "open the .sb4 file in Notepad and find the sections and delete them"
like, how do you know which section is which? Theres a lot of numbers, what do they correspond to?
and yeah, i think it happens everytime when i hide a section. The problem is, sometimes i have to move more than 1 section to get to the thing i have to change, so i can't just undo it.
And if i can't select more than 1 section at a time, do i have to manually click on each section and turn the glows off so it doesn't look like a block of glows in shipmaker?
thx
heres the notepad txtSpoiler!
alos, you can turn of glow by setting the glow colour to black in the options menu
There is no OP, there is only more boosters...
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
thanks
options menu? ingame?
what if i were doing a ship for a beauty pageant?

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
in the actual game, yeah. and don't worry, pretty much every user has glow set to black anyway

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Keep in mind, clicking Unhide All under Commands (or pressing Shift-U) unhides all the sections at once.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
That won't help if the blueprint file has bugged out somehow, which does happen now and then. Fairly easy to fix, fortunately.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Hi,
I set the the big missile/blaster of my ship to 2 times default size, but then decided it was too big and made it 1.2 instead. The problem is, when i open it in bsf it shoots the bullets at 2 times the default size. Only when i close/open the ship (,) do the bullets go back to 1.2 size.

>Custom core sprite.<
Can't, short of breaking open the game code and changing the sprites it uses manually.
>Sandbox mode.<
Load up Battleships Forever, click "Custom Game", click "Sandbox".

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Going for an organic approach so my first units don't need anal accuracy to look good. Rotation triggering is challenging to figure out. Wish I could just see the rotation limits on the screen. Not sure what angle is being used as 0...

The first half of a "roach" - Maybe he'll only get three tiny weasels though. Five was outrageously powerful, but cool looking.
1) How do I tell my user-made ships how to autonomously target / rotate to face enemy ships in the sandbox?
2) Can I change friendly ships to enemy in the sandbox, since I know them somewhat.
4) Seen some general balance figure guidelines but didn't understand and can't find em now. How do I know how much firepower I should be allowed to stick on or is this completely ulterior, and in that case how do I rate my complete ships to give some amount of comparison.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
I have accidently made a zero width weapon, and I can't seem to select it to delete it. Any ideas on how I can get rid of it?
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
You can still see the parenting lines right? Same deal as offscreen pieces: reparent to a duplicate piece, reassign anything useful that was also parented to the same section, then delete the section.
I think you could also open the .sb4 in notepad and delete it, but last time I tried that I ended up with nothing parented to the core, so try the other way first.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Orrrr you could figure out which weapon is broken - if you can remember what type it was this gets easier. When text-editing the .sb4, the size values are directly after the name, ex;
nWepA,2,3660,3059.50,FusionBeam,1,1,0,0,0,16777215,0,0
God forbid you do something a little more logical.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Uhm it was widely used in the older shipbuilder versions to create laser effects, you could always select zero width components then. I was rather surprised it wasn't possible any more.Arcalane wrote:Orrrr you could figure out which weapon is broken - if you can remember what type it was this gets easier.
