Re: Shipmaking Q&A
With your ship problem, it's probaly best for you to upload said ship file so someone can look at it.
With the triggers, read both this and this. They should be able to guide you on what you want to do. Good luck.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
As far as I know, there's no way to base triggers on a ship's movement. You could try linking them to the thrusters, but I don't think that works.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Modules have no ability to interact with triggers.
Or else you'd see 'vtec kickin in' on starfighters with boosters hooked up to fire control guns for INSTANT DODGE.

Realism, seriously? It's a space ship game. Realism was thrown out the window a long time ago.
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
How can you retract weapons in "Weapon bays" when not in use and then retract them back during a battle ?
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
you have to use triggers, and i'll let you figure the rest out for yourself
There is no OP, there is only more boosters...
Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Thanks for the Help !
I kinda figured it out after 30 mins of posting my question hehe.

no problem, and it's good that you worked it out for yourself, as it means you'll be able to make it work better good luck!

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
I'm wondering how to make the weapon only fire when a ship is open, but i don't really have an idea how to. I made a weapon go online/offline when i pressed "," and the section move and stop when i press ","Water_and_Wind wrote:Limited Realism Entry
Name: Syracuse-class Beam Cruiser (so creative, I know)
Shipmaker shot (you see that layering error just behind the glowy core? It doesn't show up in game):
In-game shot showing retracted form: (press '/' to switch between the above and this)
Showing off freespace-style laser: (beam only fires when the ship is opened up)
Custom sprites used: spr_1px.png (place directly in custom sprites directory)
If there are issues with the submission, let me know ASAP:
but the weapon fires regardless and the section keeps moving back and forth, instead of stopping when its completely open/closed as i want it. I'm just trying to figure out how to work it with 2 sections and a weapon right now.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Set the Trigger off actions for the sections to "Mov. reach target (self)" and "Mov. reach origin (self)" to make it so they stop when they're completely open or closed.
The weapon online/offline trigger isn't the trigger you want. Instead you want the "shooting" trigger. Have the weapon set so "shooting" is disabled, and have it so it's enabled at the button press, or if you want to be more fancy, you could make it enabled when one of the sections reaches it's target, and disabled when it reaches its origin.
Hope that helped.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Well, I noticed a few things wrong with this. You've got the sections set to move, so they will open up automatically as soon as the ship is loaded. You might wanna change that by turning "moving" off. As long as they've got a trigger set to move them, you do not have to set moving to enabled. You only do that for sections which you want to move all the time.
The problem with the enable/disable shooting not working is simple to fix, though. Select the weapon, right click the section it's sitting on, and select "set on trigger 1" and "set off trigger 1". Because you've got the weapon set to activate and deactivate when a section moves, but you didn't tell it WHICH section. Just do that and it'll work fine.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Is this ship fixable in anyway? What did i do wrong? The parenting lines off the screen.
thanks
also, can you select more than 1 section at once and how do you do it?

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Nope, that's probably not fixable, unless you open the .sb4 file in Notepad and find the sections and delete them that way. You probably didn't do anything wrong. Bugs like this happen sometimes.MuDkIp wrote:Is this ship fixable in anyway? What did i do wrong? The parenting lines off the screen.
No, you can't.also, can you select more than 1 section at once and how do you do it?

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
Just as a precaution, I find that section offscreen bug happens a lot when messing with the "hide" function of the SM. I tend to keep parenting lines on when hiding things and just "undo" if I noticed it's happened. You may wish to do the same to avoid that problem in the future.
You can't select more than one section, however you can move more than one at a time. Select a section and then ctrl+shift+arrows will move the section and all of its children.

Re: Shipmaking Q&A
hi, how do you "open the .sb4 file in Notepad and find the sections and delete them"
like, how do you know which section is which? Theres a lot of numbers, what do they correspond to?
and yeah, i think it happens everytime when i hide a section. The problem is, sometimes i have to move more than 1 section to get to the thing i have to change, so i can't just undo it.
And if i can't select more than 1 section at a time, do i have to manually click on each section and turn the glows off so it doesn't look like a block of glows in shipmaker?
thx
heres the notepad txt
