Meteor Attack!

Post by Normandy »

http://www.geocities.com/normandy_333/R ... 082008.zip

A totally new way to play BSF! You take control of a single space station, fighting to survive against hordes of enemies? Sound like a grinder rehash? Well it is, with a twist: your only weapons are a pair of gravbeams, a region's unusally high meteor activity, and your wits! See how long you can survive in this endless [well ending at level 10 since I have yet to finish level design...] battle!

New features in the 09.07.2008 release:
5 new and original levels! Including a new more impossible boss wave!*
New allies to help you fight (well, later in-game anyways)
*Has not been tested if winning is possible :D

Tips to help you win:
Sometimes it is more advantageous to fling ships into meteors rather than the other way around. Sometimes it's the other way around.
You are not invincible to meteors! Be sure to gravbeam them away from your own station.
Though micromanaging deflectors sounds like a good idea, it's really not.

I will make it easier once I complete all the levels I have planned. There are supposed to be eventually 40 levels in total, but it felt kind of bad releasing an encounter that was meant to be won because it only included the first 5 levels.

Though I may actually choose to keep the difficulty and instead add new gameplay elements as one progresses through the levels.

I wish we could implement a score counter in this, then we could be competing for highest score. New version is out, check it out!

The first version wasn't very difficult, but the new version seems too difficult. I was doing alright until the gluon platforms (wave eight) arrived and tore me apart. How many waves are there so far, nine or ten?

My only complaints are about the impeder platform, and the gluon platforms. The impeder platform doesn't seem to do anything, I never see it slowing down shots, due I think to a short range. I think you should increase its range, or replace it with something more useful. The gluon platforms are too tough, I smashed numerous meteors into one of them, and it wouldn't die.

All in all, this is a great idea, that should definitely be continued.

Hrm, I never got up to the gluon platforms. I suppose that's why they're slightly imba :D . But they're supposed to provide a new challenge, since you can't throw them towards an incoming meteor shower, like you can with most of the bosses. There are 10 levels so far; 2 of them boss waves (5 and 10).

The Impeder platform was originally very powerful and useful, but then it was toned down as an afterthought. I'll see what I can do with it.

Great, I look forward to the next version (so I can actually beat it :D), make sure to lower the gluon platform's life (that is definitely necessary). Also, congrats on actually bringing some attention to the encounters forum, I'm glad someone finally managed it.

I love it, and I have a feeling I'll enjoy another version where you have a ship instead of a station even more. I couldn't get past the hestia/pirate cruiser-thingy wave, but I only tried once, so this also gets points for difficulty.

I dunno, a ship would add too much multi-tasking.

I was originally planning to have a ship but as BoVinE says, the multitasking would have killed it.

*Bump*

Don't die little thread!

New version is out. A smaller update, making it easier to progress.

Also, I think I will come up with another minigame for BSF, and pack it with Meteor Attack. Any ideas?
