On the contrary. You divvy up the points as you like. You can have two 40-point ships, a 41 and a 39, a 50 and a 30, or a 79 and a 1. It's up to you.

That was a suggestion to stop people making dummy ships.

I just made a dummy ship + massive cruiser for 150 pts total, the cruiser crushed all.

The thing with the dummy ship/cruiser combo is the large ship is probably going to have many more deflectors to share amongst it's sections, meaning it's going to get hit a LOT less.

The worst part is the god damned cruiser can run circles around my equally shared out points ships, so not only are they both outclassed weapon wise, they're also outclassed when it coems to flanking.

Yeah, the change would come with regards to speed. Hypothetical: You spend on maneuverability only the amount of points spent on the more maneuverable one. For instance, you spend 20 points on movement for ship A, you could spend 20 free points for movement on ship B, before you'd have to pay for another point.

That would balance it out.

As for deflectors, I have the 3:1 ratio, and I think that should be enough. I don't think they're a huge factor, but I just may be wrong, we'll see.

Deflectors kinda have an exponential problem.

1 Deflector helps in combat, but isn't really that useful.
2 Deflectors give you a good shot.
3 Deflectors make you hard to kill.
4 Deflectors [depending on your profile] can make a ship invincible.

that's not possible...
no ship is invincible, no matter what configuration it has.

High speed ships get pretty close.

I left my two ships dueling the oneship + dummy overnight...

The battle did not change when I got back in the morning.

More speed + particle guns.

Just a reminder to people, get your lightweights in.

Also, I will break ties in the following manner:
Additional sets of ships will be spawned in formation fairly close to where the action is, each set being behind their opponent.

Say that X and Y are in a tie, and arranged like so:
X-------Y
Then it becomes
Y-------X-------Y------X

Put the two in the middle closer to each other so no weird lockons happen.

Are you doing the tiebreaker during the battle, or as a new match?

@ASM: Good point, will do.

@elecboy: During the battle. That way, if one has got the edge but hasn't finished the job, it will still have the upper hand when the new ships are dropped in.
