Encounters from Alternate Universes - Update: Sat May 17, 08

Yo! Nevindar here, bringing some random missions I have/will/might have cooked up. (And I will include later works here too).

Anyway, here are the first ones:

Alternate Battleships Timeline

A new enemy [An Entity from another universe has entered ours]

Story so far:
During the war against both pirates and Aliens, a small border outpost suddenly dissapeared from the Navy's communication sharts.
A small Investigation force was sent out, under the order of Fleet Commander Garling.
There are rumors that Garling employs prototype weapons and ship designs in the field to compensate for the low fleet resourses he got avaible.

M01 - Unknown Enemy [Face this new threath for the first time]

Mission AI:
Last recorded information tells us that there should only be a handfull of civilians and an outdated hestia in the area. Pirate activity should be low.

M02 - A grim discovery [Get a closer understanding of this new threath, as a sceduled task force arrives to your current command post]

Mission AI:
Pirate activity detected in the area, rooting them out should prove easy.
Incase of pirate stronghold in area, task force assigned to cleanup from
your last mission enroute. Cronus class ship avaible for command on
arrival.

M03 - Unlikley Allies [As the enemy are on your doorstep, can you drive them back or will this be your last stand?]

Warning! Enemy presense detected. Contact lost with 47% of sector.
Enemy reinforcement detected. Dispatching avaible ships from closest
sector. Commander Garling notified.

M04 - Backwater Defence [As an alliance between the Terrans, Pirates and Nanz is struck, the war agains the new enemy rages on.]

Accessing historical archives, loading aviable data on: Theta Epsilion V-4.
"The fourth planet in the Theta Epsilion quadrant, once a decisive position in the Outer rim rebellion.
Here is where the ancient battleship "The Glorious Hood", through an heroic act, fended off several attacks and enforced peace at the cost of its crew.
Now she sits, still fully operational, silently with several other ships in the sealed vaults of Theta Epsilion V-4."

Link active, incomming transmission:
Liutenant, we need you to hold out there and protect that outpost! Currently we are involved in heavy fleet combat, although Nagaya is confident that with the aid of the Nanz, we will finish things here quickly. But untill then, we can't spare you any reinforcements. You have to do with whats avaible on that planet. Im sending you the authorisation codes to open all the Vaults. Over and out.

Clearance received. Prepearing to unseal vaults. Ground personel notified.
Enemy precense detected on longrange scanners.
Refitting obsolete ships to todays standards.

Mission AI:
Secure nearby sector inhabited by primitive species from Vintarr threath. Intelligence reports they have newly developted interplanetary space flight.
According to directive D-48, 3F All non-aggresive cultures, deemed to contain a tech level at 4 or lover are under affect by the "interplanetary saftey directive".
Failure to this, which includes primitive losses over 50%, is not acceptebale and will be punished by swift service neutralization.

2x Xeo Scout Cruiser
Armed with dual Blaster Cannons and lightly armored, the Xeo Scout cruiser is the ideal choice for recconisance and patrolling duty.
1x Zen Light Cruiser
Armed with two forward Blaster batteries and improved light armor, the Zen Light Cruiser is mostly used for escort and defense duty.

Vintarr Raiders:

Picture taken from nearby asteroid belt, shows typical raider craft.
Armed rapid plasma weapons and light armor, theese crafts are often outmatched by our ships.
Notice: the energyflux created by their engine outakes can dissipate most energy and ballistic weapons.

Native Speciece:

Spy drone recordings shows native species in sector V-Terr Beta to have achived technology level 3.5.
Due to the recent improvements in interplanetary spaceflight, they have uncontiously made themselves
known to nearby raider faction.

M02 - Escort Duty [Fend off the vile Vintarr as your Convoy is pulled from warpspace]

Trqawmm Freighter:

Slow moving and lightly armed, the Trqawmm Captains of theese freighter class ships often request UESF escort through our territory
as they might not always have one of their own available.

Atmos Combat Cruiser:

Picture taken by crewman stationed aboard the UESF Scout Cruiser Liandria.
Sporting several blaster cannons and fission charge launchers, the Atmos Combat Cruiser is a medium armored goodie that has won several durability awards.

Unknown Vintarr Ship type:

Recent increase in Vintarr piracy have led the UESF reconissance department to increase range of probing pattern.
Image shown was taken from previously unknown nebulae in the Tri-Gannu Sector.
Due to disturbance in sector, the Probes internal circuitry malfunctioned.

M03 - Field Testing [Due to recent improvements in ship technology and commanding, you have been chosen to field test a new ship in vicinity of the Great Graveyard world of Kontik]

i like those kamikaze ships and those ship wreckages
good story
did those aliens merge with the ships? it looks like that

I based the story on elements from Homeworld: Cataclysm.

Information Regarding enemy origin remains unclear. No communication has
been succesfull. Avaible information regarding enemy fleet indicates no real relation except the same strange layers of bio-mass covering parts of their hull.

It's speculated that ships attacked by previously unseen intelligence, will be
subverted to their cause. No information regarding crews fate are recorded.

there are always surprises playing your encounters.
i like those new ships, they looks cool
and i like those fast-firing enemies with clear weaknesses that make them beatable

you may want to add some screen shots/pictures to make this post more attractive though

If you are running on any kind of windows, you can use WinRAR (from RARlabs: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) or ZipGenius (from ZipGenius: http://www.zipgenius.it/eng/index.php) to Unrar it. If you are using any other kind of OS, I can't help you at the moment.

If you wonder why im uploading in .rar is because I simply can't upload the .enc file otherwise. It says I should be able to, but when I try, its like im not trying to upload the .enc file, but something else. (Perhaps its because of Vista?)

The cataclysm encounters were quite fun, even though they weren't all that strategically challenging. You should try some subversions that do more than just change which sections the ships uses. *imagines a Alien Dreadnought with half an Oenone sticking out of one side*. If we ever get GML scripting, it'd be sweet to make a beast mothership that could take over your ships in the middle of an encounter...

I agree that an "Subvertion" like beam would be quite cool...

I have experimentet a bit with the "rammed ship" idea and such, but without an corelike piece, it does not look so good. But I'll give it a try.
And I'll try and make them a bit more challenging.

To make a core sprite, just take a weapon, press r, press e and change the name of the weapon, and there you go, a core sprite.
Eg. weapon|Blastesdafr|45|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1||-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|-1|1|1

Ah, thats intresting. Thanks for explaining that, Ill be back with some new things hopefully quite soon.

The dreadnought/Oenone/Cronus looked pretty sweet, but I didn't get much time too look at it with Nagaya3 on the scene... :lol:

Any chance we'll see more of these?

Hopefully. Rightnow it's a bit "hectic" with some math tests coming up, but I hope to continue this afterwards.
