Screwup with ship database involving encounters

Post by Bad Boy »

I'm not sure if this is where this should be but I'll this is where I'm putting it. If it shouldn't be here, my apologies.

The problem happens when I try to download an encounter that is uploaded to the ship database. When I click on the link, it opens in new tab and I get a page like this. (just in case it doesn't work for other people, here's some of what it says.

Code: Select all

[Encounter]
AiController = 1
Height = 3000
MaxRange = 1000000
NumTerr = 90
Numships = 89
Powerupchance = 0
ShowerSize = 3
ShowerTimer = 3000
Version = 1
Width = 3000

[Ship0]
Class = Player
Delay = 0
Type = HQ.shp
Wave = 0
angle = 68.18
xx = 380
yy = 2706

[Ship1]
Class = Player
Delay = 120
Type = BroadCruiser.shp
Wave = 0
angle = 15.15
xx = 318
yy = 2549

[Ship10]
Class = Allied
Delay = 0
Type = Fighter.shp
Wave = 4
angle = 21.84
xx = 1116
yy = 2629

[Ship11]
Class = Allied
Delay = 0
Type = Fighter.shp
Wave = 4
angle = 30.65
xx = 1100
yy = 2574

[Ship12]
Class = Allied
Delay = 0
Type = Fighter.shp
Wave = 4
angle = 15.64
xx = 1032
yy = 2567

[Ship13]
Class = Allied
Delay = 0
Type = Cruiser.shp
Wave = 4
angle = 48.34
xx = 875
yy = 2230

[Ship14]
Class = Allied
Delay = 0
Type = Cruiser.shp
Wave = 4
angle = 39.41
xx = 1131
yy = 2405

[Ship15]
Class = Allied
Delay = 420
Type = Fighter.shp
Wave = 0
angle = 10.23
xx = 487
yy = 2844

[Ship16]
Class = Allied
Delay = 420
Type = Fighter.shp
Wave = 0
angle = 20.12
xx = 483
yy = 2742
etc. (it goes on for a long time with this encounter because it has 90 or so ships and 89 pieces of terrain.)

When I make an encounter, open it with notepad, then replace everything in that encounter with the text I get on the page, it works fine. Is this how it's supposed to be? I don't think so because when they are uploaded to something like megaupload for example, I get the encounter file as a download.

You right click on the link and choose save target as. When it tells you what to save it as choose .enc.

Or you could copy/paste the text shown into notepad, save the file in your Battleships Forever folder, and go rename the .txt at the end of the filename to .enc.

@Impeached: ya that's what I'm doing but it's way to much work to do when an encounter uploaded off site works fine.

@Aidan: What? When I right click, I see save link as, send link, etc. but no save target as. Unless I'm mistaken, the download window needs to pop up to choose "save target as".

"Save target as..." and "Save link as..." are the same thing, duh.
