Confederation VS CFS campaign

Post by TimoK »

Confederation Navy Vs Coalition of Free Systems

I'll use this thread to post all encounters for this campaign.
All feedback of course very welcome.
Note: when downloading enc files from the ship database, use rightclick-save-as.

CN: Confederation Navy
CFS: Coalition of Free Systems

(Confederation is basically the main human culture but tends to enforce it's policies quite strongly, at least in the minds of some. Over time, this leads certain star systems to form a coalition to oppose the policies of the Confederation. Eventually the conflict escalated into an all-out war.)

Mission 1

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?szn0c3t03z5

A squad of corvettes that was sent to intercept couple of CFS missile boats have been ambushed in an asteroid field. The missile boats were apparently accompanied by gunships which are currently making the corvette squad's life very difficult.
Your task is to assist the squad and finish their mission. Eliminate the missile boats and their escort.
We've detected incoming CFS reinforcements. With any luck, we'll be able to take them out too and deal CFS a nasty blow.
We've dispatched frigate CN Solaris to the mission area to assist. She'll be arriving ASAP.
Good luck, commander.

Mission objectives
-Destroy CFS Missile boats
-Destroy any CFS reinforcements

Available Craft:
-Corvette (a fast close range strike craft)
-Missile Corvette (a fast long range strike craft)
-Frigate (a small warship)

Mission 2

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?iydwghuvvxs

Operation "Phantom Sweep"

For the past couple of weeks we've been investigating inconsistent sensor readings around the inner areas of the system. Three days ago we found something - the dustbelt around the star is littered with CFS sensor jamming devices. They've got something down there, and to find it we need to clear the jammers.
You've been assigned two Striker assault craft and a frigate. Your mission is to clear the designated area of any sensor jammers. A squad of corvettes will be escorting you.
We're not sure what kind of resistance to expect since the jammers are messing with out sensors, but they've likely got some strike craft on standby in case we come knockin'. That's why we're giving you some heavier firepower.
We've got a Defender on standby. In case CFS decides to bring in more guns, we're sending it in.
Whatever they've got down there, destroy it.

Mission objectives:
-Destroy CFS Sensor Jammers

Available Craft:
-Striker (fires volleys of unguided rockets)
-Frigate
-Defender (provides defensive fire)

Mission 3

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?ntjpmbjmaoz

Looks like the gloves are now off. We've detected a fairly large CFS assault squadron heading towards our primary long range sensor installation in this system. No doubt they're desperate in trying to prevent us from finding whatever those sensor jammers were hiding.
Your mission is to intercept that squadron, commander. 2 additional railgun corvettes have been dispatched to your location, they will be arriving a little late however.
The railguns are going to provide you a very important edge over the enemy, so use them wisely.

Mission Objectives:
-intercept and destroy CFS assault squadron

Available Craft:
-Destroyer (medium size warship)
-Railgun Corvette (corvette armed with a railgun)
-Frigate

Mission 4

Download: http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _4_fix.enc

We've finally discovered what those jammers you helped to destroy were hiding: a CFS supply station.
It's sitting right behind the belt of dust and rocks, close to the star. We think it's a key element in the recent string of CFS ops in this system.
The brass wants the station taken out, ASAP.
It is likely that CFS knows we're going to hit it soon. They might even go as far as to try and set up an ambush. Be ready for anything commander, but that station must be destroyed.

A missile corvette squadron will be joining you shortly after you arrive.

Mission Objectives:
-Destroy CFS Supply Base

Available Craft:
-Missile Destroyer (fires volleys of missiles)
-Destroyer
-Defender

Mission 5

Download: http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _CFS_5.enc

A mining colony near Castor, one of the moons orbiting planet Arc Rho, sent a distress message an hour ago reporting an incoming CFS strike force.
This is highly unexpected since the colony is protected by treaties. This may also tie up with your last mission, where we discovered a disabled and abandoned research vessel near the station. It's navigation logs revealed several trips to the area of the mining colony, but all details were wiped out.
We don't know why CFS is attacking the colony, but they must be stopped.

Additional intel: the mining rigs are equipped with repair modules. It is recommended to utilize them.

Mission Objectives:
-Minimize damage to the mining rigs

Available Craft:
-Cruiser (a large and powerful warship)
-Frigate
-Defender
-Striker

Mission 6

Download: http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _CFS_6.enc

Good to see you commander, thanks to your efforts most of the people in the mining rigs were saved.
You've already seen the news; CFS released photos and other evidence last week suggesting that Castor is used as a staging area for military operations. Whether it's true or not, I don't have the clearance to find out. But we've got a new situation here.
CFS is claiming that Castor is a threat to all civilian CFS activity in the system and are demanding full access for inspection teams.
Confederation is denying everything, naturally, and CFS has responded by deploying a fleet close by. 6 hours ago they occupied part of the orbit used normally by freighters, claiming the freighters are supporting the secret military operations conducted on Castor.

We're sending in some orbital defense satellites from Arc Rho using hyperspace field generators. The area where they're assigned to arrive at is occupied by the aforementioned CFS forces. You are to engage and destroy all ships in the area so that we can jump in the satellites.

Mission Objectives:
-Clear arrival zone of all CFS ships

Available Craft:
-Cruiser
-Destroyer
-Assault Corvette (short range heavy corvette)

Mission 7

Download: http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _CFS_7.enc

The situation with Castor is now pretty much under control now that we've got the satellites in place.
There's a new development regarding the crew of the abandoned science vessel. Command has issued a priority red-2 on this so it's pretty important.
Confederation Central Intelligence has located some members of the crew and has been tracking them for a little while now. Evidently us "grunts" don't need more information than that so here's the deal.
CCI has provided us with information on a planned meeting between the crew and a representative from a company called "DynaGee Inc" on one of the company stations in orbit around Maia.
It is believed CFS also knows about the meeting and will attempt to snatch the crew. Our objective is the same, we are to bring them in, unharmed.
You will secure the area and destroy any CFS ship that tries to get their grubby hands on that crew.

Mission Objectives:
-Secure space around DynaGee station by destroying any CFS ships in the area.

Available Craft:
-XS-109 Archer (a destroyer class vessel with an EMP gun)
-Frigate
-Defender
-Railgun corvette

Mission 8

Download:
http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _CFS_8.enc

Since we brought in the science vessel crew after your last mission, CCI and Navy Intelligence have been working together to figure out what all the ruckus around the whole thing is. Turns out it's quite a
whopper and the people at the top have known about it all along.
Early expeditions in this system a hundred years ago revealed small amounts of exotic matter never seen before. Confederation scientists did some tests on it and basically figured it could be used to create superfast hyperdrives, cutting down traveltime from days to mere hours. It was all theory however, they didn't have enough data to make any of it actually work.
They didn't stop though. They formed a research base on Castor and put up a facade mining colony. Castor was chosen because they believed there was a good chance the substance originated from there.
Evidently CFS also found out about the substance. The crew of the science vessel were doing research for CFS on Castor and collected enough data to figure out how to make it all come together and build a functional superfast hyperdrive.Unfortunately for CFS, they weren't quite taken by CFS's ideology and decided to bail before handing over the data. After which you found their ship abandoned.
They had a contact in Dynagee, somebody who they thought would be able to help them to put the data to "good use". I guess they didn't think Confederation was good enough either.

And now to where you come in. After long talks with them, we managed to convince the crew to co-operate and give us the data before CFS finds it. They hid the data package in a research base at the edge of the system, gave it to some fellow scientists who they could trust.
CCI agents and few marines were flown in 6 hours ago to retrieve it. 30 minutes ago we received message from them saying their cover has been blown and a CFS fleet is heading toward the base.
Apparently there was a CFS undercover agent in the base who managed to send out a message before he was silenced.

The data package must be protected at all costs. A nearby patrol has been diverted to engage the fleet but we don't expect them to be able to repel the full attack. Your force will jump in and assist the patrol.

A Striker and a Defense platform have been sent your way from another base, they will arrive soon after the main force.

Mission Objectives:
-Prevent CFS fleet from reaching the research base

Available Craft:
-Cruiser
-XS-109 Archer
-Defender
-Striker
-Defense Platform (big sluggish platform deploying ship)

Mission 9

Download:
http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _CFS_9.enc

Excellent work intercepting that fleet Commander. The research data has been delivered to CNS McKinsley, a System Command Vessel near the planet. Since the data is extremely important, we're not going to transmit it to HQ, the risk of the transmission being intercepted by CFS is too high.
All CFS forces in the system are on the move. Our scouts and sensor installations have detected CFS signatures all over the place.
CFS forces must know the data is being delivered to HQ via McKinsley. If they're going to get it, now is their last chance.
In two hours McKinsley will arrive on the orbit of Arc Rho. We believe CFS forces will attempt to jump in and either destroy or board McKinsley.
Arc Rho defense forces have already been notified and they're on their way to our jump co-ordinates.

//Tactical: we suggest keeping your forces close together and close to McKinsley if possible, the ship is heavily armed.//

Mission Objectives:
-Defend CNS McKinsley

Available craft:
-System Command Vessel (a huge capital ship)
-any ships sent by Arc Rho defense forces

Mission 10

Download:
http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... CFS_10.enc

It looks like we've actually pulled through. McKinsley docked with HQ and the data was delivered to Command. I should tell you I've put forward a recommendation for promotion on your behalf. Looking back, you've done hell of a job during this mess that started with that supply station.
We can't celebrate quite yet though. We have received a transmission from a stage one colony world Adhara orbiting Mira, which is 26 light years from here. A CFS Dreadnaught and an accompanying fleet of ships have positioned themselves on the obit of Mira. They've destroyed most orbital structures and are currently holding their position.
They're holding the world hostage. The dreadnaught has stated that unless the data package will be passed over to local CFS commanders over here, they will start bombarding, starting with military targets.
Commander, there are over 700 000 people living on Adhara. If we pass over the data package, it will pretty much guarantee victory for CFS.
Here's the good news. Couple of years ago a government owned lab led by a certain ingenious engineer tried to build an ultrafast hyperdrive, even with only limited knowledge of the principles. Needless to say, they failed. However, they were very close to finishing the project before calling it quits. With the data package you helped retrieve, they've told us they have the final pieces of the puzzle and are able to build a crude prototype that should be able to fling ships over to Mira in about 15 hours.
Here's what we're going to do. We're giving you guns, and you're going to jump over to Mira and kick their ass out of the orbit.
One thing i should mention before you go. We haven't gotten official confirmation of the Dreadnaught's demands from CFS yet, meaning we could have a rogue officer acting on his own here. Or it could be just their way of washing their hands of this.

Tactical: Things are quite hectic right now and we cannot send every ship at the same time due to severe logistical issues. We'll send the main strike group first, followed by McKinsley and a couple of smaller squads that will arrive when they can.

Mission Objectives:
-Destroy CFS Dreadnaught and it's fleet orbiting Adhara

Available Craft:
-CNS McKinsley
-Cruiser
-Destroyer
-Missile Destroyer
-Corvette
-Striker
-Defender
-Assault Corvette

Epilogue

//Signal received 13:32:57
//Recipient ID: Watchtower
//Sender ID: BlackHorse
//Header: knock knock
//Accept?

<yes>

BH: The ship is destroyed.
W: and went out guns blazing, i'm sure. That Confederation ace commander hasn't let us down yet.
BH: I'm surprised the ultradrive worked.
W: the chief engineer came through at the last minute. i've never been comfortable with the amount of wildcards in the plan... did you get the package?
BH: Yeah. I left it in you-know-where.
W: excellent.
BH: Looks like there's finally light at the end of the tunnel. Frankly, i'm not comfortable with the amount of bodies and debris this whole plan has left in it's wake.
W: we all knew what we were getting into when we joined the group.
BH: Cutter's group isn't finished yet, by the way. The loss of the Dreadnaught won't take them out of play, believe me.
W: i'm aware of that. however, after cfs gets their own prototype working with the data passed on to them, things are going to change dramatically. i wouldn't bet on Cutter's group being able to adapt to new climate.
BH: Ah well. I'll be drinking to our victory tonight... maybe i'll check out Adhara. Should be some celebration there. Heading off-system now... contact will come through the usual channels next time.
W: have a nice trip. till next time.

//End Transmission

Mission 1

Hmm, well this was easy enough on my processor. Lots of little ships flying around in an asteroid field but with no PD on most of them I had to watch out for bumping into asteroids almost as much as worrying about getting shot.

The final enemy wave did pose a threat as I was surrounded by those little guys with the Mining Beams but the odds evened out again once I got out of there and picked those guys off.

In the end I barely won. I had disarmed the last enemy ship but I got my last weapon blown off too (darn missiles!) so all I had was a flak connon and one other little ship that was defanged. Having no effective weapons I thought I might have to get my other little ship to go kamikaze on the final enemy but then he backed himself into an asteroid killing himself and I won. :P

heh, yeah i tried to make it reasonably challenging. maybe it's tiny bit too hard for a first mission though. but then again it's no fun if there's no challenge.
thanks for playing :)

Actually it was about right. Its always harder the first time you play because you don't know what to expect. I just had to adapt to the style of this encounter. As you saw, my encounter consisted of slower ships and the game play is about strategically wearing them down where as this encounter had smaller and faster ships so the game play emphasis is more on maneuvering and target priority.

It was actually kind of of fun to cut it so close. :D

Mission 2 was fun. I found it much easier than the first mission. I may have been able to handle one more enemy wave this time. I like the idea of going in to destroy the jamming devices.

mission 5 added. This one's easy for your ships but since the "objective" is to prevent damage to the mining rigs i thought that sort of compensates.

Wait, thats Colony Wars, isnt? Colonial Navy vs League of Free Worlds, and the history is the same. I was planning to do that too! The Enebrian Colonial Navy and the Draconian Separatist League

i've never heard of colony wars before, had to google that one... well this storyline and setting isn't exactly the most original thing ever, just something fairly simple to play with.

These are rather nice, they have well done (abeit small ships) and the terrain is decorated nicley. It also runs very fast on my crappy old laptop so that's a plus. All of these encounter missions will be a hundred times better if text and briefing scripts are added. Mission four was my favorite, you got to use some cool ships and it wasn't too hard, I was fooled at the beginning and devoted all my best ships stupidly, then got owned when the reinforcements came , but I tried it agian and beat it....Keep up the good work!

thanks, i'm having a good time making these encounters, glad you enjoy them.
the ships are designed with gameplay in mind so i try to avoid going crazy with them. but there will be some bigger ships soon.
a new mission will be posted tomorrow.
