Well, for non aegis busting jobs, scatter beams actually only do 1.3 more DPS, and they cost twice as much while having a shorter range. I doubt section economy will make it worth it.

Seconded, but it has to be angry.

I think purple and gray is a good color scheme.

How about each escort picks two of angry pink, purple, or grey, but the mothership gets all three?

Hmmm... my source is outdated, it seems. It doesn't like I calculated right. Here are some calculations:

-- SKIP THIS, IT JUST CONFIRMS HIS FINDINGS --

Scatter Beams do 15.75 damage per second. Mining Beams do 12 damage per second. This means that Scatter Beams do 7.375 damage/second/point and Mining Beams do 12 damage/second/point.

That gives you a ratio of 1.6 Mining Beams to 1 Scatter Beam for damage/second/cost so all things being equal, Mining Beams are better.

For 200 scatter beams and 100 sections, the cost is 250. For 400 mining beams and 200 sections, the cost is 300. The Scatter Beams will do 3150 damage per second while Mining Beams will do 4800 damage per second. The Scatter Beams will do 12.6 damage/second/(total point) and Mining Beams will do 16 damage/second/(total point). Thus, in the end, I guess Mining Beams are more economical.

-- STOP SKIPPING --

However, if you normalize it by multiplying the Mining Beam d/s/tp by 5/6(ratio of 250:300), you get 13.3. Its still more efficient, but just barely.

If you want to have a minimium armor level, Scatter Beams are alot more efficient:

For 200 scatter beams and 100 sections, each with one upgrade, the cost is 350. For 400 mining beams and 200 sections, each with one upgrade, the cost is 500. Scatter Beams do 10.5 d/s/tp and Mining Beams to 9.6 d/s/tp. If you normalize it by multiplying the mining beam amount by 7/10, you get 6.72 d/s/tp.

I plan to have a minimium HP level of HP so fewer sections actually are more economic for me. Plus, I have 50 more points to spend on other things. However, I guess if you want to run around with 200 point sections, you should go with the the M beams. I will make both.

PS. I second the 2/3 color idea.

Interesting, I'll definitely run the calculations from now on if I increase section HPs. By the way, with HP boost, your MB total cost should have been 700, which makes it even more skewed.

By the way, I came up with a team name: The Lavender Supremum.
Ok, I guess that's kind of lame...

Everyone, check your PM boxes. There is epic win in them...

So, should we go with that idea? And ASM, could you do what team beta did with the PM list beside people's names?

I think we need to decide what mothership we are using.

PM LIST:
Antisocialmunky
Mtheninja
Lloyd
Tsakara
Mr. Wizard
kaaskopp
Master Chef
elecboy

I have a pretty decent anti-mothership ship. It does 4000ish damage per volley. :D Its been able to beat/draw most of the other motherships I have lying around from the team.

Also, I think we should not reveal our designs on here but only talk about them like Beta is doing.

If you have an awesome ship and need to get a critique, I'll be happy to help. :)

PS. I have come up with several observations.

1) NEVER EVER parent ANYTHING to an aegis section. Aegis are retardedly easy to blow off. I think Lloyd, taht your prototype mothership suffers from this. All it takes are two missiles and boom.

2) If you're going for an hunter/killer mothership, you will need atleast 5 speed.

3) If you're going for a fast mothership(speed 10+) taht flanks, beam weapons and heavy weapons are very slow to turn and can have problems facing the target ship.

4) Buff all sections generously with atleast one HP Buff. A close in fighter will give those ships that don't a really bad day.

5) Tac guns can kill Aegis sections.

6) 360 Aegis is totally not worth it. 1 Lancet will ruin your day. Tacs can penetrate them if your ship flies into them.

Alright, new Mastermind up, and it's got a whole new twist. Once we see what Tsakara's got, I think we should start getting into serious comparing of our motherships. Especially since antisocialmunky seems to have at least a dozen!

@ antisocialmunky: Mtheminja, Master Cheif. Unless you mean I'm the team spy and he's the cook...

EDIT: The PM links are broken.

Oh and ASM, could you edit the first post to include the PM list? Thanks a lot.

Done, so how's your MS coming along? My favorite one has a secondary function of being a sweet kinetic missile. :D
