Various custom ship tournaments go here, along with old encounters.

Should I make a custom ship tournment that allows customization of weapons/modules?

No. The tournament loses its feel of being a tournament if weapons and modules are given specialised point values just because they have been modified. A tournament is really ONLY a tournament if it achieves its goal of having players' tactical cunning pitted against each other, not just how well modded weapons will perform.

Please don't start flaming me for my own point... :?

Alternatively, you could cap the amount a stat can be modified, say by a factor of 4, preventing cheap 'pwnage Point Defense breaking skillz'.

Also, you're probably going to run into decimal point values, what will you do about that?
Er, missiles do 25 damage. That actually LOWERS the DPS of the weapon. The cost would stay the same or go down, if anything. Also, I'll deal with decimals. All this poll is asking is if you LIKE the idea.

Really, everything you're asking I've already considered, for the most part. I AM the custom weapons guru, after all.
Let's not be full of ourselves, yes?

I was considering a "titan tourney" over at the other forum, but there wasn't much response (mainly from lack of forumites). I was using a system based on:

(new DPS) / (normal DPS)
* (square root of % increase in clipsize)
* (% increase in bullet speed) / 2
* (% increase in arc range)
* (% increase in turn speed)

Plus custom stat changes with special weapons, like pulsars, that may have many variations, for which I would use a polynomial equation for calculation.

If you can do it instead of me, I'd be happy to join. :D
As I said, I already have a formula going. And it actually seems somewhat similar to yours, but it's more of a linear equation that will-for the most part-weight all changes to stats equally. Yes, I am encouraging people to find as many loopholes as they can find, as the winner will most certainly be the one who finds the most loopholes.

We're already doing a huge change in variables here, we may as well not complicate it anymore than we have to. AFTER the tournament is over, THEN we'll start refining things. For now, I'll keep the formula simple and exploitable, as this is basically a bug-test tourney.

I will not flame, and instead assure you that there will be no arbritrary point changes. And I will, infact, set limits on how much one can improve a weapon. This still leaves tactical cunning in place, by forcing people to work within limits.

However, I will respect what you have said, and say that I will not force you to enter this tournament. I am sure that normal tournies are still going to be held.
