Unseen Combats of Battleships Forever

Post by TormakSaber »

This series of encounters is designed to be played along with the Official Campaign. The encounters within are side stories to the official campaign, and will include combats on the Terran, Alien, and Pirate siders. For the first time in BSF, you'll be able to control the Nanz, and Nagaya's Raiders, as they fight against TFHQ, scoring decisive offscreen victories! Relive Cherenkov's first meeting of Nagaya. Take command of Nagaya's pirates in the Admiral's failed assault on the Pirate Base during Milk Run! Play as the Nanz, and personally slay the Admiral after Titan! Or even accompany Major Hong on his mission to safely hide the Nanz Conversion Bomb after the Graveyard mission. Enjoy these and more in the ongoing series: Unseen Combats of Battleships Forever.

This post will always have the latest updates of every encounter. These downloads are also available in the individual posts themselves, as are the dialogue scripts.

Side Mission A: Doorbell - http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... orbell.enc

This mission takes place before Mission 1 of the Battleships Forever Campaign. f you wish to play it in the timeline, play it after Milk Run, so you know the controls, but before moving onto Mission 2: Rathole or Side Mission B: Inferior. It centers around Admiral Cherenkov, and his first meeting of Nagaya at Vespus. In this mission, you control Cherenkov and his army, on a routine escort mission through the Vespus asteroid belt. However, the patrol is about to become anything but routine... Relive this exciting chapter in Cherenkov's life, and meet the villain of Battleships Forever for the very first time!

~~~
Objectives:
Defeat all Pirates encountered.
At least one Civillian Freighter must survive.
Admiral Cherenkov's ship must survive.
~~~

Script:

Before Wave 1:

Admiral Cherenkov: "Not too much further. We'll be out of the Vespus belt shortly, and from there the mining station is easily visible and you can complete the run on your own. Always happy to help.

First Mate: "Sir... we're picking up jump coordinates. Starboard bow. They're not ours.

Pirate: "We are the Red Fang Pirates, under the command of the Pirate King Nagaya. Surrender your cargo and we may let you go with your lives. Refuse to hand it over, and we'll blow you to hell..."

Admiral Cherenkov: "Like hell we'll surrender. Turn guns! Open fire! And for God's sake, protect the civilians!"

After Wave 1:

Admiral Cherenkov: "Nagaya, huh. Pirate activity in this area is new..."

First Mate: "It looks like they're serious sir. We've got more ships jumping in. I've never seen it this heavy before."

Admiral Cherenkov: "Don't bother with flagging them down. Just kill them. They're hostiles."

After Wave 2:

Nagaya: "This is the Pirate King Nagaya. You have trespassed on Red Fang Territory. You have one last chance to leave peacefully before we eliminate you. Again: This is your final warning. I suggest you take it."

Admiral Cherenkov: "Big mouth for someone who just lost all of their ships."

Nagaya: "If it's personal you want, personal you'll get."

First Mate: "He wasn't kidding. Look at the radar sir. Three big signatures jumping in."

When Nagaya has been reduced to core half life:

Nagaya: "We'll meet again, Cherenkov. I'll have your head yet." *With that, Nagaya activates an emergency single use warp drive. His ship blinks out instantly, leaving behind the discarded warp drive, which explodes.*

Admiral Cherenkov: "Dammit. I can't believe we let him get away... we'll deal with him later. Let's bring the civilians to their station."

Misson Accomplished!

~~~
Editor's Sidenote: As I can't cause enemies to "jump out", consider killing Nagaya in this mission like it is in Bunker: When his Core is reduced to 50% life, he jumps out, and you succeed in the mission, even if there are other enemies left. If Cherenkov dies, or you lose all the Civilian Freighters, you have lost the mission; and please restart. I can't add dialog at the moment, unfortunately, but I will update and add it in as functionality is added.
Side Mission B: Inferior - http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... ferior.enc
Mission B - Inferior
This mission takes place during Mission 1: Milk Run. To fit the timeline, play it after Milk Run, so you learn the controls. Then play Side Mission A: Doorbell. Afterwards, play Side Mission B: Inferior. Admiral Cherenkov has just left, after teaching the Commodore how to command his ships. He assembles his fleet and begins to move on the Pirate HQ. This mission allows you to take command of Nagaya's Pirates by stepping into the role of Darren Christos, a liutenant of Nagaya's. Beat back the TFHQ forces as they attempt to take over your base! Prove to the Terran dogs that you don't need to be part of their silly Federation in order to claim a chunk of space as your own. Pirate King Nagaya does not accept failure!
~~~

Objectives:
Defeat all TFHQ Forces.
Force Admiral Cherenkov to retreat.
At least one Pirate Station must survive.
Darren Christos' Ship must survive.

Optional Objectives:
Destroy as many ships as possible while leaving their weapons intact, so that you can salvage them for your own use. --- Optional objectives are merely for the roleplayer or the challenge seeker. You won't lose if you snipe off weapons.

~~~
Script:
Before Wave 1:
Pirate 1: "Eh? Wuzzat? That one of ours?"
Pirate 2: "Naw, you idiot. Look at the radar signature. It's some crazy Terran crew. Dunno wot they want, they don't have weapons aimed.
Admiral Cherenkov: *Static...then his voice crackles over the pirate stations* "Red Fang Pirates! This is your chance to walk away alive! Turn in your illegal ships and weapons, and tell us the location of your king Nagaya, and we will show mercy on you in the courts! Failure to comply will result in authorized use of force. We will wait 5 minutes for a decision."
Pirates: *The sound of laughter echoes over the Terran communciation systems. Apparently the Pirates aren't going to surrender. Several pirate ships begin to scramble, and fly in to meet the Terrans.*
Terrans: *Weapons begin to be charged and aimed. They know the choice the pirates have made, and now it's time for combat.*
After Wave 1:
Pirates: "Hey hey boys, looks like more of 'em are comin in. We'll handle these out here, we need you to take care of the ones coming towards the base.
Darren: "Copy. It's just more light corvettes anyways. Take care of that Zelus fast! It'll shred us if we don't focus on it!
After Wave 2:
Pirate: "The rear is clear, we're moving up to help reinforce your position."
Darren: "Copy, good timing, we've got heavier things coming in. The bases look alright, I don't think we'll have any trouble keeping the bastards away."
Pirate: "Darren, it's an Enyo! We'll need to flank it, or we'll be in trouble."
Darren: "Yeah, yeah, relax. I got it. Handle the Helios."
After Wave 3:
Darren: "Holy hell. They're really into this, aren't they? What'd we do to piss them off so much?"
Pirate: "I heard Nagaya mouthed off to their Admiral. Looks like he lost his cool and launched an attack. They're not doing very good at it though, are they?"
Darren: "Hang on, we've got more coming in. Looks like a carrier and escort. If you can stop drones, now would be a good time to do it."
After Wave 4:
Darren: "How's everyone doing? Everyone alright back there? I don't think there's any m-"
Pirate: "Darren, center space! The Admiral just gated in his entourage, and he's got an open shot to the base! Reinforcements are coming, but it'll be a little bit until they show!"
Darren: "Dammit! Hold him off! Keep him away from the base! And watch the railguns on those damn Aedon...!"
When Cherenkov is reduced to 50% core damage:
Cherenkov: "Can't believe it... Am I going to die here?"
First Mate: "Admiral! The new Captain is requesting your assistance. There's been an attack back at the civilian base! IT'S A TRAP!"
Cherenkov: "All forces retreat! Pull back! You all, head to TFHQ. I'll head to the civilian base and help the Captain. TFHQ won't be happy, but we did all we could. Withdraw!"
Darren: "Looks like they're heading off. Hah. Like they thought they could actually take out the Red Fang Pirates. Hail King Nagaya!"
Mission Accomplished!
~~~

Editor's Note: Again, I can't add dialog yet. The script shows what I would have done. Please treat Admiral Cherenkov's ship like Nagaya's in Bunker and Doorbell: When he's reduced to 50% life, he will retreat, and the mission can be considered a success, even if there are other enemies left on the map. IF you lose both pirate bases, Cherenkov has won; and you have lost. Please restart the mission.

I've tried downloading them, but it keeps saying that no severs are avaliable... I don't suppose you could upload them to Savefile like everyone else has been doing?

Bah, are people having the same trouble with my official ship pack too? I used Mediafire because it got suggested to me, and it's lightyears better and easier than MegaUpload...

Gimme a sec, I need to upload the new versions anywas.

Alright, I replaced them with savefile versions...

Update 1.1: Changed to savefile uploading, and changed the bugged player ships to reflect the changes made in my official ship pack.

EDIT: Damn. Balancing with the Alien ships is hard. The Terran stuff is simply better, and I don't want to give the player like a Dreadnought or something right off the bat... 3rd mission is going to be a pain in the ass to make. I love the terrain I've made for it though, I've never seen it done in BSF yet, and I hope you guys enjoy it.

Side Mission C - Martyr

This mission takes place a little bit after Titan. To play it in the timeline, play Martyr just after Titan and before Siege. The Commodore (Player) has just warped out of Titan, along with about half of Task Force 16. The remainder of Task Force 16 has remained with Cherenkov, who has successfully escaped the Alien ambush. He has made his way through space and picked up top secret transmissions about an alien army gathering in Orion, along with the construction of a superweapon. In this mission, you assume the role of a Sacred Warder of the Nanz: An alien dedicated to the preservation of your holy grounds. The Terrans have trespassed on your grounds and so they all, including their leader, must die. Some have gated out, but a few, along with their "Admiral Cherenkov" have gone so far as to press themselves into your most sacred grounds, before turning tail toretreat. Chase down the Admiral and catch up to him. Then incapacitate his ship, board it, and slay him in personal combat, as tradition mandates.

~~~
Objectives:
Slay the trespassing Terran. Leave none alive.
Catch up to the Admiral's ship, and destroy him.
The Sacred Warder must survive.
Nagaya must survive, after he Gates in.
Optional Objectives:
For added honor and glory, kill the Admiral in personal combat. To do so, use the special Dismantler ships to remove every weapon and module from the Admiral's ship. When he is only sections (the more intact the better: Bonus points for having more of his ship left.), maneuver the Sacred Warder close to him. Regardless of whether his Kamikaze AI causes the ship or explode or not, once your ship closes, you are assumed to have boarded, and the mission ends in success.
~~~

Before Wave 1:

Admiral Cherenkov: "Well.. we managed to get this far away at least. Those damn aliens will have to play catch up through the rear guard... It's vital that we get away. He have to get this information to TFHQ. Major Hong is in Zulu sector, he's the closest base nearby. We need to get there and get the information to him."

First Mate: "Sir... speak of the devil. The aliens have just engaged the remainder of Task Force 16. They've turned around and are going to try to buy us some time. Looks like they're being surrounded..."

Admiral Cherenkov: "Keep moving forward! Don't let their sacrifice be in vain. He have to deliver this information!"

After Wave 1:

First Mate: "They've removed the rest of Task Force 16, sir. We're all that's left."

Admiral Cherenkov: "Order the long range artillery to break off and flank them. They seem to rely on being in close range to figt well; if we can pepper them from range, maybe we can take them out with minimal losses."

First Mate: "Aye aye, Admiral."

Sacred Warder: "They... offend us. By being here. By *fighting* here. Remove the interlopers."

After Wave 2:

Sacred Warder: "Insolence... will not be tolerate here. You... could have fled. You chose... death."

Admiral Cherenkov: "You're all maniacs! We ARE fleeing! Cease and desist!"

Sacred Warder: "..."

First Mate: "Strike Force Delta breaking off to attack, sir."

Admiral Cherenkov: "... Good."

After Wave 3:

First Mate: "Sir... they've caught up. Radar just pinged hostiles behind us. And..."

Admiral Cherenkov: "And... what?"

First Mate: "Nagaya's with them."

Admiral Cherenkov: *his features steel and tighten.* "Turn us around. Full bore. Enter combat. I've let him get away once, and I've run from his men. Today I make my last stand. Issue the all attack order. We've bought plenty of time for the Commodore."

First Mate: "Aye aye, sir!"

If Cherenkov dies in the usual fashion:

Admiral Cherenkov: "You bastard. The Federation will see you burn. Mark my words, Nagaya."

Nagaya: "If you say so. Goodbye, Cherenkov. I told you I'd have your head, at Vespus." *Nagaya fires an EMP pulse onto the ship, and the pirates board it, slaying his crew to the last man, and jettisoning the ship into space after salvaging everything they want, off it. Luckily, Cherenkov's Black Box avoids their scrutiny, and the ship drifts slowly towards Zulu Sector...*

Sacred Warder: "You... should have let us... handle it, Nagaya. But... for the sake... of the holy grounds... it shall pass."

Nagaya: "Deal with it. I have places to be. There's this merchant trade center a bit away..."

Mission Accomplished!

If Cherenkov's ship is successfully lanceted and all weapons and modules are removed:

Sacred Warder: *The Nanz have boarded the ship, giving the Terrans onboard their first and last look at the Alien race itself. Nagaya stands by, playing lookout while the Nanz do their job. Every crewmember is slain by their technology. The Warder himself approaches Cherenkov.* "You will die this day, human... for your crimes against the Nanz."

Admiral Cherenkov: *Cherenkov attempts to pull a blaster, but the Warder's reflexes are faster. He fires a blue orb, paralyzing Cherenkov. He glares through gritted teeth at the Nanz.* "Our only 'crime' was exploration. We had no idea you were here. *You* attacked *us* first."

Sacred Warder: "Tradition demands death for your transgression... no matter how slight... it may seem in your eyes. Goodbye... human." *The Nanz fires a neon purple tachyon blast from a hand held gun at Cherenkov, who shudders, and crumples over dead.* "We leave now." *And the Nanz do, jettisoning the craft into space, unknowingly launching itg towards Zulu Sector, along with the black box containing the information that Cherenkov has now died to see delivered.*

Nagaya: "Hurry up, let's go. I have places to be. There's this merchant center nearby..."

Mission Accomplished!

~~~
Editor's Note: I know it's not exactly canon for Cherenkov's ship to "blow up". If it "blows up", use the first scenario there. The roleplay explains that the ship hasn't actually blown up, it was merely boarded and scrapped, like we see in Slaughterhouse. Also: Treat the new waves coming in as the Nanz chasing after the Admiral. Each new wave represents the Nanz fleet closing on on the Admiral (who has had reinforcements gated in: We see that the Nebula has passed when the Commodore leaves, and even with the nebulae in effect, it didn't seem to stop ships from going IN, just OUT.), until finally the two fleets clash.
I love 'em... they're not completely continuity friendly (you see TFHQ ships that didn't appear untill later in the campaign as "newly developed" classes, like the Arcas and Thetis), but I love 'em... I think TH would do well to give these a bit of a polish and include them with the main game... Great job Tormak! :D
Yep, but my logic is this: It says "Newly developed", but there's no exact timeframe given for just how new it is, and for how long the campaign itself it. It would be pretty boring for the player to just fight waves of Hestias and Proteus'.
Thank you though. Do you think they're too hard? Too easy? Doorbell is probably the easiest, there's no real way to lose unless your civvies get jumped. Inferior I consider to be my best balanced one. Martyr I had a hell of a time balancing. Alien ships can get tossed around very easily. I was having trouble getting a force that could even just kill the 3 Terrans that start in. That's why your numbers are so much bigger: Both because "it's a trap!"c and because Nanz ships are much weaker. I may still tweak that one a bit. The numerical superiority gets to be a bit much at the end, though the enemy Cronuses are capable of searing through your little ships fast. I might cut out the ally stuff that jumps in near the middle, but in my testing, without those allies, the Sinopes cut your fleet to ribbons.
Ah, interesting work indeed. Perhaps you could add two separate mission lines, one for Cherkninov and one for Nagaya, instead of having both.
tl;dr-ers will be shot on sight.
Do you have any suggestions for missions? Cherenkov gates in and out to help you a lot in the first few missions, but other than Milk Run (failed pirate attack), Bunker (where he mentions meeting Nagaya at Vespus), and Titan (where he dies), you don't learn too much about what he does.
Nagaya you don't know much about at all. You know he was at Vespus, he appears in Bunker (but you don't know what he did before that), he appears in Siege in his second ship (I freelanced his appearance in Martyr after Titan to intro his new ship, and show closure in the Nagaya/Cherenkov storyline), and after that, doesn't show up again until Stronghold. He has a few lines in Slaughterhouse which leads me to believe he's nearby but "offscreen", but other than that, he doesn't appear in Slaughterhouse or Graveyard.
The next encounter is going to be a prelude to Slaughterhouse, I think. It will introduce Major Hong, and show you some of the futile fighting going on before the Commodore gets there to turn the tide. I'm not sure if I should do it from the Pirate side or the Terran side though. Since neither side "wins" until Slaughterhouse, either side is technically viable. I also plan to have to pay the Aliens again, and play a prelude to Graveyard in which you... create the Graveyard. ;) Perhaps I'll use it as a way to allow you to control Nagaya's 3rd ship, to show you just how destructive it is, and let the player see just how he kills TFHQ so effortlessly. Then of course there's the Hong/Conversion bomb escort mission.
If anyone has any mission line suggestions that could fit into the timeline anywhere that they'd like to see, just suggest them and I'll look at fitting them in and creating them. I'm wanting to stick as close to established canon as possible though.
I'm looking forward to future official missions so I can continue to side series as well. :D
Actually, according to his log in Slaughterhouse, he actually escaped the 'Titan' ambush and had time to discover both the Nanz fleet assembling at Orion and the conversion bomb being built at Vega before he and his crew were killed during a Nanz boarding action. Presumably this happened near where 'Slaughterhouse' takes place, otherwise the ship wouldn't have been able to 'drift' into the area, so I find it plauseable that when Cherenkov was killed, he was actually trying to run for Hong's bases. 'Martyr' technically breaks the canon in another way as well, because in 'Titan', both you and TF 16 warp out, leaving Cherenkov on his own...
And one more thing... if the pirates really did beat the crap out of Cherenkov's ship like in 'Inferior', then how come it's undamaged and fully operational when he warps in during 'Milk Run'? Am I excepted to believe he has a 'spare' Hecate lying around? :lol:
Bah... hrm... those are good points. I'll look into redoing Martyr. The script, anyways. The base encounter is still good, I'd think. It starts with Cherenkov running away and ends with him dying. The script needs some tweaks (Changing "escape from Ambush" to "escape from Nanz base with r0x0r info"), I'll work about fixing it to make it lore friendly, and say it takes place slightly before/ during Siege. Nagaya leaves the scene at Marytr and goes to engage the Commodore at Siege. Hows that? As for Task Force 16... I didn't want Cherenkov to just be *alone*, and it seemed like some of them might have gotten left behind in the fight, or wanted to stay behind to help Cherenkov, despite orders.. *shrug*
As for Inferior? I wanted a "boss" encounter, and I wanted the player to be able to fight Cherenkov's ship. I could remove Cherenkov's ship I suppose, but that removes a lot of the challenge from the final wave of Inferior.
Added script changes to SMC - Martyr, to reflect the proper lore. The encounter now happens as Cherenko is fleeing to Zulu sector, not the ambush itself.
Also updated Inferior. I've removed Cherenkov's ship and replaced it with a Peitho. Trek was right it is silly that you dismantle Cherenkov's ship, but he's peppy and fine back in Milk Run. As a result, the end is slightly easier.
As always, report bugs and suggestions to the topic. :D
