Assault the Mothership 2: Team BETA discussion

Post by M123 »

I figured that it was worth starting this thread now, especially if we want to work more effectively as a team.
-------------------------------------------------------
BETA FLEET

1. Natch - Sidwes Bastard Child III {Flanker/ Decoy}

2. Anarki - Bringer of Dawn (?) {Bombardment}

3. DarkenShroud - Early Grave {Medium-Long Range DPS}

4. M123 - HBP Slasher Mk III {Medium Range DPS/ Tank}

5. Kalanosis - KX-06A Spirit of Heaven {Bombardment}

6. ChaosTheory - Fallen Light Mk 6 {Short-Long Range DPS/ Bombardment}

7. Comus - Rao III-G {Bombardment}

8. Himura.Kenshin - HCD-4b_Redoubtable {Tank}
-------------------------------------------------------
EDIT6: Almost all of our ships are listed on this page (with links), except for Anarki's Bringer of Dawn. I'm not sure if the deadline has passed yet, but I think Anarki should hurry.

EDIT5: (?) means that I am unsure if that ship is the one that the owner plans to submit.

EDIT4: The ship database has been fixed! Now we can make progress.

EDIT3: I hope the ship database is repaired soon. All these upload sites seem to be filled with spyware, according to my anti-virus. (Stupid thing)

EDIT2: Sections in {} are my estimate of that ships role. If this information is not correct, just say so.

EDIT: New sensors technology has made it possible to detect slight variations in energy signatures, allowing a more accurate estimate of the motherships true form:
Image
Dark blue areas are emitting almost no energy, they are believed to be the scaffolding surrounding the ship. Bright blue and green areas are emitting significant energy, they appear to be parts of the ship itself, although some modules attached to the scaffolding have also shown up in this colour range. Red and yellow signify huge amounts of energy, such as the core of the mothership and certain modules. If these scans are accurate, it means that a large portion of the Mothership is hidden beneath the scaffolding.

GO BETA TEAM!!! :D

I wish we could have this thread private.

I was thinking of making a pure-defender ship - basically, a massive target, loaded with deflectors and ablative plating.

EDIT: Also, look at the apparent dieterling device - if there is really a dieterling device, module weapons, like Gluon Bolters and Teller Torpedoes, will be ineffective, because they are too slow.

I'm planning to make a beam-heavy ship with a few standard deflectors and a decent number of flaks. Also, I can only see 2 deflectors on the mothership, so that probably means that it is either really vulnerable, has high-HP sections or has a ton of PD.

I'm assuming the battleship will be using railguns and tachyons - flak are very ineffective against those weapons. Maybe point beams will be a better choice?

I haven't built anything yet, so I can make changes easily.
Maybe point beams will be a better choice?
Hmm, I'll go for a mix of point beams and particle guns then.

I haven't yet figured out my plan for the Ship, but expect either a PD-heavy cruiser or a fast flanking frigate from me.

Here's my ship, the HBP (Heavy Beam Platform) Vindicator:
Image

Code: Select all

HBP Vindicator
___________
Attributes
----------
Class - Cruiser - Core 400 HP
Extra Core HP - 0 = 0p
Total Core HP - 400

Max Speed: 1.35 = 9p
Acc: 0.06 = 3p
Turning: 0.84 = 6p

Sections: 15 *1  = 15p
Extra Section HP - 2200 = 11p
=44 points
___________
Modules
-------
Deflector x5: 5*4 = 20p
=20 points
___________
Weapons
-------
Beamer x6: 6*3 = 18p
Scatterbeam x3: 3*2 = 6p
Point Beam x2: 2*2 = 4p
Particle Gun x2: 2*2 = 4
Blaster x2: 2*2 = 4
=36 points
___________

44 + 20 + 36 = 100 points total
-----DOWNLOAD-----

The Vindicator can beat Nagayaship2 with minor damage on the outermost hull sections. The deflector setup works almost every time, except when the AI stuffs it up.

If we are doing this the same way as the first AtM, then this would be a [TEST] version.

Since the new mothership appears to be a lot lighter on the megatachs (this one only appears to have one in fact), I think a faster version of a ship similar to Natch's Sidwes Bia would be in order... And actually, I think I might just build it... :)

A slightly modified version of the venerable Rao-class battleship:

Image

Rao III-G

Battleship

Core - 500 HP (0 points)
Max Speed - 1.3 (13 points)
Accel - 0.04 (4 points)
Turning - .56 (7 points)
Sections - 24 (12 points)
Extra Sec HPx8 (8 points)

Hull Subtotal - 44 points

Pointbeams x4 - (8 points)
Pulsar x 8 - (32 points)
Deflectors x4 - (16 points)

Weapons and Mods Subtotal - 56 points

Total - 100 points

Opinions? I'd post a D/L, but the sever is glitching for me at the moment.

Looks good, though I think you should move your PDS further back - it seems very vulnerable with that cap right in front of it (at least the front-most two).

And yes... I'm very bitter I can't enter my own tournament, so I'm going to help by trying to make helpful comments. I wanna see you guys win!

Oi, might as well say it.

Anyone willing to move to team delta so I can be on team beta?

Glad you want to be on the best team around, Natch . . . :D

Can anybody tell me what the stats are on the Mothership?

Anyway, I designed this ship for close-range attack confusion.

Fallen Light
(I'd upload, but the database isn't working right now.)

Note: There are 2 more tachyons on it than it shows.

Drop the missles add more mining beams? Other then that, shes a winner. Once again you have come up with a ship I am impressed with. I just feel the missles won't do much against the flak and such we'll be up against. I like the 4 tac cannons though very much, and the assortment of defense.
If it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it

WE NEED MOAR TACHYONZ.

Image

Better? Just for comparison purposes, it rips up the Sidwes Bia, cremates that fragments, drops the ashes over a high cliff in a hazmat container into a fast-flowing river, and laughs as it gets devoured by pirahna.

:D

Any more suggestions?

[Edit:] I think it needs more deflectors.

I'd say put the pds a little further back, just because splash damage or failing shields means you're going to lose a chunk of defense very very quickly.
