2 ships to take on 1 pulse spammer?? I'm feeling a lot better now...yea
But really..you can make a ship to take out a pulse spammer...I think..he just needs to have mhoar weapons to take out the spammer first.

My initial testing, and some basic knowledge leads me to believe this "pulse spam" problem isn't a problem at all with adequate planning, especially after the pulse point change yesterday. Here's a bit of reasoning:
Given: Pulse guns are short ranged Given: Corvettes are fast
Inferred: corvettes will get a lot of use out of pulse guns.
Given: Corvettes have low HP Given: Corvettes (and to a lesser degree, frigates) don't have many segments. Given: Pulse guns have low HP
Inferred: Railguns and lancelets will be very effective.
Given: Pulse guns are short ranged Given: Beams are long ranged Given: Corvettes have low HP
Inferred: A Beam ship, even a corvette or a frigate, should be able to kill a pulse corvette from afar.
Given: You will be fighting with three other ships. Given: You should be planning with your team.
Inferred: You should end up with at least one long range ship that can snipe weak ships from afar while they're busy with your frontline ships.
Theres a few ways around pulse gun ships. Stay out of range for one, flank it with a faster ship, have good section placement and deflector's. Theres other ways, but then I'd be saying to much. LOL experiment and be creative, make a ship that gets close and expect to be pummeled by a pulse gun ship. or anything for that matter. Pulse gun ships aren't a problem, there just another strategy that doesn't always work.

That would be true, if it wasn't for shields. With shields, rails and lancets are ineffective, and a beam ship can't kill a corvette in time to stop it from closing. That was part of my initial objection.
That said, there are other ways. As DarkenShroud says, one only needs to be....creative.
In space, no one can hear your spaceship's hull being blown into little, tiny, bits.
Have you considered increasing the size of the arena beyond 2500x2500? This is with 8 ships after all. As a reference, the recent Alien Mothership tournament used a 4096x4096 arena for 9 ships (8 vs. Mothership).
DarkenShroud wrote:Been testing out at that size, whats the max range gonna be set at?
Well, I would expect that Maxrange should be set large enough so that ships in opposite corners can see each other. Just cause I don't want to think I set Maxrange=999999, since I run all sorts of sandbox sizes (current favorite 9999x9999).
DarkenShroud wrote:I usually do maxrange to 3000, the size to 2500 x 2500, and fleet AI on(activated).
Exactly what I plan to do. I think 2500 should be plenty large for 8 ships, because these will be, more or less, close to stock sized battleships. A smaller arena will also decrease the battle duration, allowing me to run battles at least twice to ensure fairness .
One slot left says it. Join shal I. He who dared create "The Fey" in the distant pasts.

Okay okay, enough dark imposingness... And really, that thing was just me being a wrong SOB. Just got my current... system. A bit of a backup... Running BF well enough I can stand it... ^.^' stupid laptops hdd died... Sos. BOO!
So. Team beta was it? We must plot.
If i missed the last slot by some smallish ammount of time, disregard the majority of the above... XD...
As to these being appx stock sized crafts... Ah. Maybe. XD... A quick look past your point system says more a size up in my mind. But heh. It all goes out in the wash.

Way ahead of you dude, we'll talk soon. Just make sure you can keep a closed lip, I will not have blowhards or bragarts on our team. Keep it underwraps and welcome to team beta. The shadiest team to date
Is there a tentative due date at all?
No, but now that we have a final member, I'm hoping he will set one. Maybe 2 weeks from today? 2 weeks is plenty of time to get together with your respectable teammates to talk and plan. Agree? Or we gonna let this thing drag on for months?
Nope. not yet. which is a good thing.
Its never a good thing to drag things out, never.
