Fun facts about the system names!

Hoth and Solo are both references to Star Wars. (I think Solo must be a Wars reference. I can't think of any planets or star systems called Solo in any sci-fi I know of.)
Khitomer is a Star Trek reference.
Lusitania is a reference to Orson Scott Card's Ender series.
Iserlohn is a reference to Legend of Galactic Heroes.
Yuggoth is a reference to a planet in the Cthulhu Mythos by H. P. Lovecraft.
Terminus is most likely a reference to Isaac Asimov's Foundation series (though it could reference other sources as well)
Kobol is of course a Battlestar Galactica reference.
Darwin is most likely a reference to "Darwin IV" from Wayne Douglas Burlowe's book Expedition.
Barrayar is a reference to the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold.
Altair is most likely a reference to Forbidden Planet.
Skaro's a Doctor Who reference.
Jita's an EVE Online reference.
Caladan is a reference to Dune.
And finally, Z'ha'dum is a reference to Babylon 5!

Terminus could be in reference of the Terminus system from Mass Effect 2, also.

Lusitania could also be a reference to the cruise ship that got sunk in WWI.

Except then it wouldn't be a sci-fi reference.

Dumbass.

You got it right on everything but Solo, it isn't star wars. If you manage to figure out what that is a reference to I'll be pretty impressed.

Yeah, I honestly have no idea what it's a reference to, and Google isn't helping me with that one either. That said, the minute I saw Barrayar on there I was a happy camper, because the Vorkosigan series are some of my favourite sci-fi novels ever and I don't see them get referenced nearly enough.

Other fun facts: There is actually a star called Altair. It is the 12th brightest star in the night sky (which doesn't seem impressive until you think for a moment about how many fucking stars you can see from Earth with the naked eye alone) and is roughly 17 lightyears from Earth. It is entirely concievable that one day in the distant (very distant) future, that we'll actually go there.

Sorry, Anna, I didn't know they all had to be sci-fi references. So 'scuse me if I didn't know. Thanks.

You and your poor deductive reasoning skills are excused.
