Pulling the Plug?

Post by Arcalane »

I think it's about time we all admitted (let's face it, we already knew) that M2 probably isn't going to happen, and I hear rumblings of other forum games that might happen, so I want to free up space for them. A tidy forum index is a good forum index.

BUT, I don't want everyone's hard work to go to waste, at least as far as shipbuilding goes. So, what I'm thinking is this;

What I might do is throw out some "weight categories" for ship battling - probably three categories. Small, medium, large, that kind of thing. Each side would pick however many ships they can fit into that category - with both lists being hidden from their opposing faction. Then the fights are run, preferably recorded to video, and posted up for watching.

Thoughts?

sounds cool, could we run it as some sort of contest, perhaps with a league/knockout tournament style of organisation? it'd be nice to fight against other peoples ships in our own sides as well i'm guessing, i'm definately up for taking on starstruck =D

Yeah, it's probably a good idea now, the battle scenes and vids were one of my favourite parts of looking back over the old metagame.

Thats a solid idea you got there. It was getting hard to remember all the old rules anyway...

Sounds like fun. At the very least I wanted to see what sort of ships the other side made and this'll be a good way to do it. When are you thinking of doing it?

As soon as a couple more factioneers stop by is when the ball starts rolling at least. If you have any suggestions for the weight brackets let me know.

<75, 75-100, >100?

wait, that's size. in terms of weight that would be <5625, 5625-10000, >10000

That would be quite cool, lets us have a clear set of rules and a good standardized environment for combat.
I would recommend adding in other factions for other shipbuilders to join too.

Groups like :
the Fuchsia Federation
the Lavender League
the Pear Participation

or something.

Sounds good to me.
Weight categories should probably be larger than vidboi's suggestions. At least more 10000.

I meant in terms of total mass/weight for ships per bracket, silly. :|

Ex the heavy bracket is ~250,000 total to be spent on ships as you see fit.

Once again Silverware fails to grasp the concept. This is a one-off event using assets created for the meta2 trial (and only the meta2 trial) though the results will be put on show for everybody. There will be no other factions.

This is the end of the line for M2. What happens with other forum games happens with other forum games.

oh... right.
Well why not situate it as semi-regular battles of meta2 standard ships.
Then not only do new builders have some form of standards to fit themselves to for ships, but also those of us who don't do so well in ship building, but can pick fleets well enough can have something to compete in.

I think that running that way would be a good.
Of course im under no illusions of how long that would last if you did do it that way, but it would be worth a shot
