RULES AND REGULATIONS

Breaking the rules repeatedly will result in warnings. Once you receive a third warning, you will be temporarily banned. After the ban is relieved, your warnings will be 'reset' to zero so that you start with clean slate, but the second ban will be longer, and third ban will be permanent instead of temporary.

If someone is breaking rules, report them ( using the little exclamation mark button at the bottom of their post, Image ).

If you feel that one of your threads has been erroneously locked, PM one of the mods (preferably to the one who locked it in the first place).

BEHAVIOR

1. Be polite, respectful :
This means no insults, personal attacks, ad hominems, flames, berating, and all other forms of hostile behavior. Do not attack people - if you can't argue with someone, ignore them. Try to be civil at all times.
This is especially important when dealing with newcomers, arguing and criticizing someone. - This rule is stupid and can largely be ignored unless things are taken too far, and if you report an Admin's post for violating this rule you will probably just annoy people.

2. Do not force your opinions/criticism :
Do not behave like your word is law and that all ships must be made and balanced to your specifications; do not try to force your building style. When giving opinion, use logical arguments to support it.

3. Keep offtopic short, simple :
If you have something to say that is not directly related to the topic of a thread, make it brief and terse, ie. no more than a few sentences. Particularly, do not make posts solely or mainly for this purpose. If you have an offtopic question for someone, pm them.

4. Do not post if you don't have anything useful to say :
Do not make blatantly irrelevant or useless posts. If you don't have any useful commentary or content don't post, and make your comments worthwhile. Simple praise is considered worthwhile, providing that it doesn't end in single-sentence 'I like this ship.' posts.

5. No backseat modding :
Do not attempt to enforce rules on your own. Report the culprits (using the little exclamation mark button) to the moderators instead - this is actually encouraged. You can remind people of rules, but only if this is not the focus of your post and you adhere to Rule 3.

6. No thread hijacking :
Do not try to change the course of a thread to suit your own purpose. For example, posting your own ships in someone else's thread without his agreement is unacceptable.

7. No bringing out problems/grudges in public :
If you have a big problem with someone, do not talk or even mention it in public. Either take it to the pm or contact moderators.

8. Problems with moderation :
If you have a problem with the way forums are being run, do not talk or even mention it in unrelated threads. Contact the staff instead, in private.

POSTING

9. Editing moderator edits :
Editing modifications of your posts made by moderators is a very bad idea.

10. Grammar :
Take time to write out your posts. Do not use 'leetspeak' and try to be grammatically correct.

11. Formatting and emoticons :
Do not abuse emoticons and font formatting (bold, italic, size, colors etc).

12. Big images :
Do not post an images that will stretch the forum, link to them instead. A screenshot of entire game/shipmaker window (~1024x768) is considered a 'big image'. If you are posting animated gifs, be mindful of their size.

You may also hide large images using the spoiler tags.

13. Quoting images :
Don't quote posts with images - edit links (or [img] tags) out of your quotes.

14. Quote pyramids :
Do not do them. If you absolutely must continue quoting people (e.g. it's a new page), snip out the relevant bits, break up the quotes, etc.

15. Multiposting :
Unless its your own thread and you have valuable content to add, edit your posts instead of posting multiple times one after another. Bumping is exempt from this rule.

16. Thread necromancy :
Do not post in threads that are more than a month old, unless you are the thread creator and have something valuable to add.

17. Bumping :
You are allowed to bump your thread in Custom Ships forum once a week, counting from the last post in it. Do not bump unless you are the thread owner.

18. Image macros :
No image macros, period. Unless you're a Moderator or Admin or just somebody they like. Nepotism motherfucker. Clever image macros will probably slip by this rule as well.

19. Signatures and avatars :
If your signature is larger than your average post, please consider compacting it. Links in signatures to anything that 'requires' clicks for whatever reason are disallowed.

Signature images may not exceed 550px by 200px (width and height respectively) and avatars may not exceed 150px by 200px. This is cumulative for signature images; you may not stack two 200px high images on top of each other, nor two 400px wide images beside each other.

Animated avatars and signatures are frowned upon - which is to say they may be removed without warning - especially those which flash between bright colours. Subtle animation is fine, but try not to make it anything too eyecatching.

20. Spam :
Spam is obviously against the rules.

21. Things we do not discuss :
Politics, religion, consoles, source code.

21a. DEAD SERIOUS :
DON'T ASK FOR THE SOURCE CODE. DON'T ASK th15 TO RELEASE IT. THREE PEOPLE ASIDE FROM TH15 HAVE IT. THEY WILL NOT GIVE IT TO YOU. HE WILL NOT GIVE IT TO YOU. IF YOU ASK, I WILL INTERPRET YOUR POST AS 'PLEASE BAN ME, I AM INCAPABLE OF NOT BEING A MORON'. Thanks.

POSTING SHIPS

22. If you don't want any comments/criticism, post your ships in Custom Ships Gallery thread. Otherwise, make a new thread.

23. If you make a thread in Custom Ships, everyone is free to comment and criticize your ships. So expect criticism, and do not try to tell people to 'shut up'.

24. If you want to post multiple ships in a short period of time, do so in a single thread. Its acceptable to make threads for different fleets, races, factions etc, but only if you actually have some ships to show in each thread.

25. Crop your images so that the ship you are trying to show is in focus (unless, of course, you're showing several ships or a battle). It is preferable to take screenshots from the shipmaker, at default zoom, and use .png image format. Rule 12 also applies.

Updated Rule 12 and Rule 19 to account for the new spoiler tags and 'stacking' images to work around the size limit.

Note: If you necro a thread a year or two old, especially if you do so without content, from this point forward, that will result in an instant tempban. I can understand necroing a thread a month or two old, to a degree. For it to be a year or two old, you have to go back pages and pages, and if you then post in it, you obviously know it's old. Which means you either haven't read the rules, or are flagrantly ignoring them. Either one will now get you a one-day temp ban.

For the record, since apparently people have forgotten this, I have waived the necro rule to an extent, and have done so for a long time. Necroing threads that are only a month or two old is generally okay (or rather, I won't generally bitchslap you for it) since with how generally slow activity is on this forum, it's entirely possible for threads that old to still be on the first page.

Added a clarification to Rule 21.
