So I just got Homeworld.

For everything else. Video games, music, movies, sports, you name it.

So I just got Homeworld.

Post by Boba Fettuccini »

At my local used books/music/softwares store. haven't installed it yet, but from the way some of you talk about it, it looks tight!

I'm all set for the Holiday season! I have recently acquired several older games that I hope to have some fun with over the next few weeks.

Cheers!

The first one or the second one?

In either case, tips for both;

Prior to finishing each mission, scrap everything. I mean everything. Every fighter, every ship - anything and everything that can be scrapped and salvaged. This is because the games use a very shoddy difficulty system that basically spawns enemy fleets larger than yours when you progress to the next mission.

It's a very poor method of scaling the difficulty and definitely isn't new-player friendly.

Plus you can easily use the RUs you get to rebuild stuff.

Fighter balls!

Take some interceptors (or scouts) put them in sphere formation around a single scout. Now, order that scout in the centre near the enemy. The scouts in the sphere will follow the evasive manoeuvres of the scout in the centre but they will fire continuously like fixed turrets. This greatly increases their firepower because they fire a lot more than if you had put them on aggressive. They are also a whole lot less vulnerable since they will jink and dodge with the centre scout.

th15's suggestion only works in homeworld 1.

In homeworld 2, scrap all fighters and frigates before you end the mission, and gather all the resources you can.

RAM BATTLECRUSIERS WITH FRIGATES!

Sorry, had to say that... I LOVED doing that...

Play Hiigaran for versatility, Vagyr for specializations. Although I got to say the Hiig BC TOTALLY OWNS the Vagyr one because it has a 360* Weapons arc...

*Cough* Anal *Cough* NO TRINITY CANNON FOR YOUZ.

Homeworld 1 kicked utter ass.

Homeworld 2 was ok but I didn't like it as much.

Homeworld 1 > Homeworld 2.

In both games, capital ships don't have a tertiary weapons battery, which bothered me.

I heard recently that THQ / Relic bought the rights to Homeworld from Sierra, so there is hope now for a Homeworld 3...

They did? HW3 is in good hands.

Damn, why won't they rescue the Command and Conquer series from the diseased, criminal pervert clutches of EA.

No. Not in HW1, anyways. You really need to take good care of your fleet, there's no way in hell you'll have enough time and resources to rebuild your fleet for each mission.
Also it's exploity, if you want to make it too easy you can just cheat. :P
