Heres the deal, on games, while surfing and while being on IRC, the internet sometimes temporarily switches off and then goes on again, but it stays off long enough to get disconnected out of a game.
I sometimes have trouble logging on IRC, saying about things timing out.
Might my router give it up, or is it my provider?

What is the hardware behind your internet connection? I know that in my computer, to save power the internet switches off when it does not detect outgoing activity for a while.
If not, I would check all of your cables, i.e. make sure they're tight, and make sure all the lights are flashing correctly on your modem and router.
