Want a Death Star?

Post by Malahite »

The Death Star has ben evaluated. If you want one, you can get it for only 15.602.022.489.829.821.422.840.226,94 USD. Stormtroopers, turbolasers, Tie-fighters and other supplies not included.

A Death Star of a diameter of 160km requires 134 septylion [10^24] tons of steel. The price per ton for steel in the US in year 2008 was 962 USD. The price for transpoering one ton of steel into space is 95 milion USD.

It'd be quite a barren Death Star though. Give the Star Wars people a couple of days to come out of the woodwork and calculate how much all the energy pylons and super future-computers will cost.

As far as I can see they just calculated raw material (only steel/atmosphere) cost and hauling it into space, at current price. They forgot about what buying 134 quadrillion tonnes of steel will do to the market: prices will go sky-high (or space-high, in this case)

And that's just for dumping it into space, not actually building something out of it. Adding lasers etc will cost even more! They mention some of those things in the article, so right now it's just a very shoddy estimate.

Maybe we need another Death-Star ship, now with triggers. All parented to the core, obviously :)
