Has Ace Online been mentioned yet? I just picked it back up since its change of hands. It's pretty entertaining, but suffers from a real dragging on from levels 20-30.

Vendetta Online. Most obscure game evar!
its a relatively cheap MMO ($25 for 3 months) but it has next to nobody (About 60 players online on average.) That being said, it has completely twitch based combat.

Yes, I did. It was kinda fun, but I played it for lack of a better space-sim. Pirating cargo never gets old, but the buggyness of some missions and the time it took to fly back to the mission start whenever something went wrong diminished my enjoyment. Also, being stuck in the tug for most of the game was NO fun. I want to fly a dreadnaught!

I also didn't like how the old I-war (which is great) gives a far better feel for the size of your ship. In part two the ships are a lot more like fighters, have more guns and steer really arcade-ish. In part one there was more strategy involved, and thinking ahead about what moves to make.

But still, it's a nice game, about 7/10 for me. Pirating massive cargo haulers, dropping containers in front of jumpgate exits, being the scourge of the known universe... It just makes up for the bad parts.

Dammit, you all forgot Threadspace : hyperbol.

It IS in space, only you battle on some kind of space "tracks"
Nevertheless, its space and ships allright
awesome and unique combat.

Theres a nice demo on steam, and its only 10 bucks for such a nice game.

EDIT : Laughed at the discussion about sins and SOTS.

I personally think SOTS is a way better game, the newest expansion called a murder of crows makes it quite a very nice game.

On topic: The Star Wars:Battlefront series is nice, even if it's not completely about space.

Star wars: Battlefront II also has space battles, I personally loved jumping into a TIE fighter and pwning the x-wings.

(even if it WAS on easy mode -.-)

Battlefront II is fun, though i prefer ground combat (Or ship assault) in contrast to zooming around a small map and blasting other fighters.

My favorite was always to try to get past every last defense in an A-wing, as a marine, and blast enemies as they attempted to board their ships. I would hide in the little alcove that you found at the hangar entrance to the main ship bit.

 I would technically do the same thing, except i'd be a jackass and ruin some of the modules from the inside first. Especially the AI Defense Core.

On BF2,
Liked the republic era more than the civil war.
Come on, everybody knows the venator has the better looks than your average star destroyer.

Arc-170`s ftw.

Love that one, yes.
BF2, true, Venators look better than ISDs.

Im surprised that none of the other DS players have mentioned Darkspace yet.

Although it is rather buggy at the moment with all the updates, the community alone is awesome, and the combat even better when there is 20+ players per the three sides at once. Epic.

Not sure if it counts as a space game per say, but AirRivals has some sci-fi-ish bits in it. PvP is pretty fun, and it's surprisingly easy to control your craft via mouse, a rarity when it comes to flight/star fighter type games.

Back when it first came out, X-Wing was pretty sweet. I still have the disk laying around somewhere here...
