The Rank System Competition!

"I say we have a contest to see who can come up with the best ranking system, names and pictures included."

The rules are simple;

There must be eleven titles/ranks and an image for each except the lowest (images for the lowest rank are optional).

Each rank image must be no more than 125 pixels wide and 50 pixels tall.

It is preferred that you create your own images where possible, rather than, say, stealing them from one of the many rank packs available online.

One winner may be chosen, if any of the volunteered sets are good enough. Images must look good, the titles must make sense and preferably have a scifi or military theme.

The post count numbers will not be changed. Just the titles and images.

I love Lord-General Thunder's ranks, but here's a few ideas for the names... First off, whilst spaceman makes perfect sense (we already use 'airman' and 'seaman'), I think 'starman' might sound better (then again, since the full version of 'airman' is 'aircraftman', 'spacecraftman' sounds better than 'starcraftman')... I would have also suggested sloting 'ensign' into the second lowest rank, bumping all the rest up one space and deleting oen of the 'admiral' ranks, but that would mean that 'captain' would then have the rank with the gold diamond in the middle that 'commodore' currently occupies, which would spoil the current distinction of flag officer ranks having gold on their rank insignia and non-flag officers not having any gold

Alternatively, if we really wanted to have 'ensign', we could simply bump the rank insignia themselves up so that 'spaceman' (or starman) doesn't have one at all and 'ensign' instead gets the grey bar... Of course, this wouldn't accomplish getting rid of one of the four 'admiral' ranks, as we'd still need to fill up all 11 insignia with ranks or else drop one (which would be silly)...

Of course, if we are going to have four 'admiral' ranks, even though I know some people don't like 'rear admiral', they really should be 'rear admiral', 'vice admiral', 'admiral' and 'fleet admiral'...

The other, more adventurous thing we could do is move away from navy-style ranks entirely and think up a set of our own... This would be a seemingly daunting, but not impossible task (examples of fictional non-navy ranks include the Cardassian, Klingon and Galactic Imperial ranks, though the latter has 'grand admiral' and 'captain of the line')...

These might seem rather ridiculous sounding, but one idea I had was to name the ranks after things in space...
