I am aware of that, and i don't really care (heck, i even think its more interesting that way). For 'seniority' you can just look at postcount.

I'd suggest using some brass/bronze colors as well, and perhaps gilded silver.

I like L-G T's so far... They sound familar without being identical to modern naval ranks...

I suppose, then, from an in-universe perspective, lieutenant commanders would be individual ship captains, whilst squadron commanders and group captains serve as field flag officers and the higher ones (star commodore to lord-marshal of the fleet) get the desk jobs and manage the overall theatres of operation...

I was considering trying to shoehorn 'centurion' and other ancient military ranks into this, but everybody does that and, given how decidedly uncreative it is, I decided against it...

I do like that system, but there are a few things that bug me.

someone has to be able to come up with something besides 'pilot officer'

I would suggest that 'group captain' become something along the lines of 'fleet captain' or 'battalion(or some other military grouping) captain/commander'

marshal could work, but I don't like it any more than admiral

star fleet could and imo should be shortened to fleet

lord marshal could be changed to 'supreme marshal of the fleet'

Yeah, true. I'll grant you that, but the other stuff looks fine to me.

Star Fleet vs. Fleet is sort of a toss-up for me. I don't mind either.

The list already has fleet-level command positions with Star Marshal and Vice-Marshal. A Group Captain has command of at least two squadrons. A Star Commodore has command of a task force or a battlestation and its attendant support. A Vice Marshal would preside over something like a planetary defense force, while a Star Marshal would preside over the system fleet. Ranks above that are, for the most part, desk jobs in the capitol.

Admins and Moderators all have custom titles which gets rid of the ranks for them anyways.

And I support this system, with the single change of Sergeant to Corporal.
