Does anybody have it?

Please, PLEASE, if you do, and have run into this problem, how the fuck do you fix it? It's really pissing me off.

"gameinfo.txt cannot be found in subdirectory 'hl2'."

I have it, but unfortunately I've never run into that problem. The forums are usually pretty helpful though. Chances are you can find an answer there if you haven't checked there already.

Well, first try checking to see if its there :roll:

If it isn't just get someone like kaz to send you a copy of his.

I've checked, researched, tried to duplicate or imitate it, and posted in both the forums and the contact us technical problems section =P.

Kaz, can you send me it?

By the way darkone, thanks, but I was going to ask anyways :wink: .

Er, it seems as if I don't actually have a gameinfo.txt in the hl2 subdirectory under the garrysmod folder, but there is a gameinfo.txt inside of the garrysmod subdirectory in the garrysmod folder (yes that's garrysmod\garrysmod). It's pretty short so I'll just post it here.

Code: Select all

"GameInfo"
{
	game	"Garry's Mod"
	title	""
	title2	""
	type 	multiplayer_only

	"developer" 		"TEAM GARRY"
	"developer_url" 	"http://www.garrysmod.com/"
	"manual"           	"http://www.garrysmod.com/wiki/"

	FileSystem
	{
		SteamAppId				218
		ToolsAppId				211

		SearchPaths
		{
			Game				|gameinfo_path|.
			Game				hl2
			Game                            |all_source_engine_paths|hl2
		}
	}
}

I have it and often times with Gmod i have problems with addons conflicting..

Try removing them one by one and starting it up to see if that is the problem.. shouldint be an issue unless you have 80 or more of them ;P

Since the last update, Garry's Mod broke all my addons severely.
And honestly, even though it's a nice game on it's own, it's just not the same without Wire Mod...

Get the wiremod SVN. It fixes it.

Huh? If I download Wiremod SVN, it allows me to run the game?

BTW, it still is't working.

You could just delete your entire gmod folder and let steam download you a fresh one. If that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas as to what's wrong.

I've deleted the games and reinstalled them, deleted steam, reinstalled everything, verified everything the mods told me to verify... all with both rebooting after each step and rebooting only when the told me to. That's... several days worth of time lost.

It could just be that you can't play due to the patch, just recently I was able to play it again. the patch that fixed my problem might have fixed yours.. but it also might have made it worse, i don't know :/.

and... do you got Gmod 9 or 10?

[get it workin, its worth it]

I had gameinfo.txt under garrysmod/garrysmod too anyawys (already knew that) and I had tried copying it over to no avail.

Umm.

I'll try the wiremod, I guess :? .

WireMod probably won't fix your problem.
I think your problem it steam related to be honest, I've gotten that error while trying to start completely unrelated games, like Dawn of War. <.<
