Social Experiment Ideas?
Some time ago me and some friends created a women's suffrage video. As the name implies we went around asking women if they would like to end women's suffrage. Exploitive and sexist I know, but funny none-the-less. Now this brings me to my next point. I need some ideas for another social experiment.
Basically my senior year in high school is about to end and I would like to question people in some exploitive manner. Insensitive it may be, and maybe a little bastard-ish, but what the hell.
Now this could range from asking people what a common acronym means, to asking them to choose a correct path in a moral situation and explaining their reasoning.
Any ideas?

I heard that in Moscow a reporter once stood in front of a random door to see if people would line up behind him. At the end of the day he supposedly had about 50 people behind him before he left. Maybe you could try this in a city near you and see if it can really happen.
The walls have eyes: the shadows we throw are the shadows we try to throw off.
See if you can replicate this video:

Bonus points for using a mislabeled map and getting people to show how little geography they actually know.

I thought that he was looking at the blank corner of a wall, and loads came to see what he was looking at.AidanAdv wrote:I heard that in Moscow a reporter once stood in front of a random door to see if people would line up behind him. I'd recommend you try it in Singapore.AidanAdv wrote:I heard that in Moscow a reporter once stood in front of a random door to see if people would line up behind him. Ever heard of the Milgram experiments? You could try one of those. ^_^
But if you're looking for something more ethical, just walk into an area with lots of people and start clapping. It works better if you have a buddy or too to help out.

Psshaw, people in the real world? Get serious, that's way too easy. Ever hear about 'dihydrogen monoxide'? People have hard times putting two and two together. It's who can disguise this best that we consider intelligent.

I've heard of those Milgram experiments. I was discussing them with my German teacher after asking him a moral question. You could try something like that, but the ethics as far as that goes are sketchy at best. I'd recommend just doing some moral question. Or this:

I think I'm going to stare at a wall tomorrow during lunch, see how many people I can get looking for something.

ah my reference to the Milgram experiments was purely a joke (probably a bad one since not too many people know about it). Under no circumstances should you even attempt anything resembling his experiment. They are morally and ethically wrong. Gotta love the 60's!

Requirements: One elevator, with at least one person in it in addition to you.
Steps:
1) Get in elevator.
2) Press any floor button.
3) Wait until it's about to stop, then turn around as if the door was on the other side.
4) Watch the other people in the elevator turn around.
This works especially well in airports for some reason.
