Pirates or Ninjas? (mandatory)

@ Mjolnir: To me, those do look around 60m tall. On the first one, judging by the size of windows on that wall its crushing, id say the wall is 15-20 meters tall, and the titan seems to be three times as tall, maybe a bit more. On the second you have those windows on the head.
And all sources i can find state that theyre 20-60m.

Not really. The main issue is that they lost a LOT to the Dark Age of Technology/Age of Strife, and what they have isn't progressing because the Techpriests are too busy hunting down even the smallest scrap of pre-collapse technology instead of advancing their current tech - which is why the Tau Empire is on a fairly even playing field with the Imperium of Man after only 6000 years - compared to the 40,000 or so the Imperium has had.TrashMan wrote:WH40K is set...like 40000 years into the future.. think of the tech
You got a whole army of geneticely boosted super-humans in state-of-the art power armor that live only for combat, are trained to perfection and are total religious fanatics to boot.
And they got a whole space armada with mechs, tanks, battleships with kazzilions of guns.
Space marines PWN everything. They are by definition the perfect soldiers.
On the Tau note, I <3 Vespids.
Take in mind that no chapter save the Ultramarines (and maybe the Dark Angels) has -all- of the 19 genetic enhancements and thus not -all- of the Space Marines are -entirely- perfect. I could for example argue that soldiers of the Coaxian Combine are the perfect soldiers. They too have their own powered armour and are heavily genetically modified and some are also cybernetically enhanced. They're bigger, faster, nimbler, angrier, possibly stronger and a lot bloodthirstier than your average Space Marine, and would be suicidal enough to take on an Assault Terminator in H2H to say the least.
Whether they'd win or not is another matter entirely.

Coaxian Combine? Who are those?
Also, while the average space marine doesn't have all 19 implants, you think one more or less makes that big of a difference when they are far bigger, faster, more agile and heal incredibly fast? And let's not forget the fact that they have huge space fleet with redicolous numbers of canons and have no problems with glassing a whole planet.

I was under the impression that SM had a lacklustre starfleet compared to the others, and that it was largely the IG who fielded the big battlelines and planet-bombardment ships, and that marines prefered the drop-pod deep strikes to standing watch in orbit.TrashMan wrote: And let's not forget the fact that they have huge space fleet with redicolous numbers of canons and have no problems with glassing a whole planet.
Dunno really.

Plus, Space Marines don't come in large numbers, compared to other armies. They do on the tabletop, but that's more or less for balancing. In the fluff, however, the Marines are even reduced to a myth on most planets. The largest part of the human race will never see a live Space Marine, simply because there are so few.
[THIS SPACE FOR RENT]
The Regular Space Marine chapters count at around 1000 Space Marines, not counting any support, personnel, maintenance etc. To my knowledge, there are at least ~40 such chapters, but there is no definite number on the exact count. As for the prowess of a regular Space Marine (from tactical squad), its said that one is an equivalent of 10 IG troopers, or something like that.
Fluffy Space Marines are pure awsome. They can toss around a car singelhanded. The civilian basis of the Terminatorarmor was desinged to maintainwork inside Plasmareactorcores. Landraiders are a serious thread to Baneblades. When you want to witness this pure win, I suggest to read the book Storm of Iron. (pure largescale war)
In ye good olde fluff an 10 SM squad is pure fear for battalions of Soldiers.
They could restore "peace" only by their flashy colors. One of the causes why they don´t use camos.

Did someone said Space Wolfes? ^^Exethalion wrote:Just voted...

Arcalane's race I beleive. And one the subject of perfect soldiers, Auriak Warriors devote their entire lives to martial perfection, in addition to wearing powered nanite armour and shield generators. While they are not genetically modified, nor have any robotic implants, they have the fast reflexes and ability to detect certain events before they happen from evolution on a dangerous jungle planet. Not to mention their excellent physiques and four arms apiece.TrashMan wrote:Coaxian Combine? Who are those?
And on the subject of Space Marines: totally badass, but peculiarly vulnerable to massive Tau super-forces (in Dawn of War anyway).

Space Marines and the Imperial Guard both serve the emperor.
Imperial Guard is a like a normal army...with lots of numbers. They can burry you with numbers and sheer number of guns.
Space Marines are like the elite corps...very elite corps.
Facing both of them..spells utter doom for the opponent.

I thought there was some bitterness between them because of the racial difference between Astartes and 'Humans'.TrashMan wrote: Imperial Guard is a like a normal army...with lots of numbers. They can burry you with numbers and sheer number of guns.

We're talking developed and broadly accepted universes here.Auriak wrote:Arcalane's race I beleive. Not something that one pulls out of his ass. Wait..The ...Massacrators ..which I just invented ..can kill everyone...cause they are like....GODS...yes gods..in power armor...nano-power armor...with psychis powers..and other magic powers..and they can manipulate time and space..and are geneticely modified to fart lightning!
Their armor and weapons are made out of handwavium (which only they posses) and defies all known and unknown laws of physics, It can do anything..even cook. They can toss planets around with their pinky finger.
So there! HA!

Differsfrom chapter to chapter. Some are alienated from humans, some have a close relationsship to them.Exethalion wrote:I thought there was some bitterness between them because of the racial difference between Astartes and 'Humans'.TrashMan wrote: Imperial Guard is a like a normal army...with lots of numbers. Take the Ultramarines as example. They even visit their former families and get vacation to do so, when earned this in dutytime after some decades.
