Mount & Blade

Post by Skyrage »

As mentioned from the Dwarf Fortress thread, this game was mentioned in the Taleworlds Forum a day or so ago, and general response about Battleships Forever was extremely positive, so do expect a surge of newcommers here :P

In any case, to return the favor, do feel free to check out Mount & Blade if you haven't already. It's a rather well-known name these days in many communities and it is indeed a really well-made game.

It's basically a medieval roleplaying/simulator kind of game for those that are unfamiliar with this game. Create a character, modify it a bit and then set off to a war-torn world and..well, survive and make a name for yourself and stuff. Hire troops, raise an army and then wage war with whoever you feel like. Join factions, siege castles, defend against sieges, hmm, what else...well, there's quite a bit and when you get tired of the vanilla game there are tons of mods available, many which are really well-made.

The strongest point of the game is in fact the mounted combat and combat in general. I am yet to see a game which can really rival it.

Well, in any case, go check it out :P

I browsed...

And saw I can't get the full game unless I shell out almost 30 bucks. Sorry, I've got other things to spend the money on.

Same. Although the game is becoming increasingly interesting, I would rather spend said $30 on HL2 Orange Box, or perhaps Crysis (when I get a computer that can run it :P )

TF2, Portal and Ep2 are all excellent. That said, if you only want one of 'em, only get one of 'em, but since you essentially get the first two games for free (and you can donate them to a HL2/Ep1-less buddy if you're feeling generous) plus one of the three for a lot less than buying them all at once, the Orange Box is a bundle you shouldn't sneeze at. :)

You could at least try the game. You can do everything except advance beyond level 6, I think, without paying.

I think playing time is limited to one hour as well...

Ugh, in the amount of time it would take to download any one of the games off Steam, I could probably beat HL2 and Episode 1 again.

So grab SMod first to spice up your HL2 replays (seriously, SMod adds a ton of replayability to HL2) whilst you wait. ;)

Mount&Blade is shareware, freely available from the official site. True to the traditions of shareware, trial players are given unrestricted access to a large portion of the game. In this case the entire game world and all of its features are fully accessible; other than cheat codes being disabled the only limits are that the trial ends when the player character reaches level 8 or after 30 in-game "days".

Wouldn't it be clever to rely on the main site over wikipedia? Trial is and has always been up to level 6 - there are no time limits otherwise.

Get the ORange Box and get GMod 10 for 10 bucks.

GMod = INCREDIBLE. AMAZING. STUPENDOUS.
