Faction Registration 2.0

Post by Arcalane »

In order to get an idea of how to get the map set up, we need to know how many factions will be in the game. Therefore, I am re-opening faction registration. If you are not genuinely interested in being the leader of a faction, do not post in this thread. We'll cover the other players of multi-player-factions later, this is just for the initial faction setups.

Just fill this in;
Faction Name:
Leader Name:
Faction Imagery:
Values:
Aim:
Concept:
History/Description:
Faction Name: What we call your faction, of course.
Leader Name: What we call your leader, as if that wasn't obvious.
Faction Imagery: Flags, banners, small decals for your ships, etc. etc. Feel free to make full images, but keep them simple and easily recognized. These need to be easy to spot/ID when zoomed in!
Values: What your faction values - honour? integrity? innovation? flexibility?
Aim: How do you intend to 'win'? Unite all the factions? Conquer everyone? Etc.
Concept: A short summary of where your faction came from. Ex-Senator who wants to be the next Emperor? That kinda thing.
History/Description: A longer and more in-depth background on how your leader got where they are, and what they plan to do.

Here's an example or two;
Faction Name: Imperial Coalition
Leader Name: ???
Faction Imagery: The Old Empire symbol, a black [+], on white for flags and banners and a white square for ship patches/badges.
Values: Integrity, Honour, Devotion to the Empire
Aim: Rebuild the Old Empire
Concept: The main NPC faction, the Coalition ideally seeks to rebuild the Old Empire through any means necessary.
History/Description: Whilst the Empire is dead, it's supporters are not. Many pine for the old days, when the Empire was in it's prime and everything was perfect. Whilst these are almost certainly false memories and wishful thinking, many are forced to admit that things were better before the Empire collapsed... but going back to the old ways may not be the best course of action.

Unfortunately, though the Coalition shines brightly on the outside, on the inside, the leaders of the core worlds are often at disagreement with each other. Rumours and intrigue surround the recent assassination of Councillor Donato, suggesting it was ordered by Councilor Llewelyn. The Coalition also strongly (and wrongly) believes that it is currently the only spacefaring faction left. They may well be in for a bit of a surprise...
Faction Name: Pirates
Leader Name: ???
Faction Imagery: Variable. Always white on a black flag/badge.
Values: ???
Aim: Loot! Plunder! Pillage!
Concept: Space Pirates, arrrrrr!
History/Description: Piracy was always a danger, even when the Empire was at it's highest point and most prosperous. With the Collapse, however, pirates have sprung forth in disturbing number, merrily raiding unprotected border colonies for supplies. Pirates prey on the weaker factions, though they sometimes band together in force to make an example of those who dismiss them as nothing more than a nuisance.

Lots of interest so far >.>
Faction Name: Far Orbit Mining
Leader Name: Marcus Anderson
Faction Imagery: Image
Values: Communist basis with some considerable changes. In space everyone has to share after all.
Aim: Currently their main aim is to rebuild, locate trade partners
Concept: Space based mining corporation turned nation.
History/Description: Originally a mining based corporation based in the rings around their home systems largest gas giant. Being an extremely lucrative business spread over a large area, the corporation maintained a relatively large defence force with which to defend its assets, eventually becoming what amounts a nation in space.

However all this changed with the fall of the Empire. With the loss overall control of the systems planetary leaders, and their increasing greed, they intended to unleash the full force of their navy upon the FOM settlement. Their interior squabbling however saved many lives. Knowing that against he navy they stood little chance, they rapidly constructed long range colony craft, and after reclaiming as much equipment as they could proceeded to break through to the jump lane and leave the system.

After many systems, and having to fend off pirates, much of their defence force was heavily damage or destroyed. It was decided that they had to settle, however they were in a system containing only a gas giant. With little other choice they set up a colony similar to their original home.
That alright? Should I tweak the background or such at all?

Same dudes as before.
Faction Name: The Religious Order of Nadir
Leader Name: Cardinal Lamedh Gimmel
Faction Imagery:
Image
Values: Faith, Devotion, Purity, Technology
Aim: Advance the eldritch quantum sciences and "open the Gate of Paradise". Convert other nations to their faith.
Concept: An Imperial xenoarcheology site has formed a cult around a locally omnipotent "god" they uncover in the ruins.
History/Description:
Various theories have been proposed as to the origin of the strange machine revered as "god" in the Nadir doctrine. Some say it was left behind by an extinct alien civilization of unrivaled technological prowess. Some say it looks man-made, having arrived in our world from a parallel dimension. Either way, it has a profound psychological effect on those who remain in its presence for long. They quickly become mindless drones, fervorously speaking in tongues about something called the "Nadir" and the "song that gives birth to the universe". Obviously, it didn't take long before a nasty cult formed around the whole mess.

The Empire tried their best to keep the machine and its followers under wraps. However, when contact with the Empire was lost, the cult entranced the entire planet with its fanatical ways. It was discovered that with prayer, the god-machine could perform questionable "miracles" within a 12.5km radius. And thus droves of people flocked to the Temple of Nadir to request wealth and good health, to be cured of terminal illnesses, and to wish damnation upon their enemies.

Recently, the cult has organized itself into a quasi-nation centered around four or five "cardinals" who convey the wills of the machine to the populace. Dissenters are quelled either by armed fanatics or by deadly "miracles" in unusual circumstances. Plans are being made to spread the doctrine of Nadir to surrounding nations and constructing Temples of Nadir to widen the machine's diocese.
Lo! the dawn breaks early on this day, and be in awe, for the tardy sun's place is taken by a Critical Object.

Faction Name:Thellian Merchant Republic
Leader Name:Supreme Farth Marshall Kerra
Faction Imagery: A cobalt circle on a Scarlet background, with a scimitar resting on a chest filled with gold.
Values: Avarice, Diplomacy, Military Force
Aim: Establish an extensive trading network with a large fleet to guard it, expand territory to more systems, ally with major factions.
Concept: A small planet resting on a vital trade lane hoping to become a strong trading force in the galaxy.
History/Description: Thellus had long been run by an imperial governor no better than a dictator. With the fall of the Empire, the citizens quickly began their long-planned rebellion.
As a soldier fighting for the rebellion, when the time came for the people to elect a leader, Marshall Kerra was an obvious choice. Smart, charasmatic, and valorous, he is popular with the soldiers and the statesmen. Noting the fact that a large amount of the populace work in or in conjunction with the trading profession, and that Thellus lies on an important trading lane, the obvious choice for government was a merchant republic. Given the title of Supreme Farth, Kerra quickly enacted policies that allowed Thellus to grow as a trading power.
Now, with enough capital to build a fleet able to rival most houses, and the resources to build a trading network lost after the Empire's demise, Thellus now stands at a crossroads. Shall it continue to be a peaceful trading planet, or become something much, much more?
It's not my fault I can't take your post seriously.

Faction Name:The Republic of New Maraia
Leader Name: Premier General Jansen Sta Maria
Faction Imagery: A golden star embedded in a golden ring on a black background.
Values: Faith. Ascension. Strength. Technology.
Aim: Peace and Harmony through supreme firepower and cooperation of state interests.
Concept: A splinter faction that grew tired of the Imperial ways of monarchy, establishing a nation on the far reaches of Imperial space.
History/Description:
Although many have put together who exactly it was that formed the Republic, the general consensus is that whoever did it, did good. Far from being the obscure faction that people think it was, New Maraia grew to prominence as their general ideas of thinking brought the masses to a following that gave the people exactly what they needed: personal freedom through faith in the whole. Emphasizing strength and overall survivability over speed or agility, the Republic's forces are still to be reckoned with, even alone.
Congratulations. You're a textbook definition of a troll. -Danny

Faction Name: Lacertus Trans-humanist Republic
Leader Name: Head Councillor Elek Szüts
Values: Use of technology to augment the body, Social Cohesiveness, Dedication to tasks
Aim: Spread its culture and ideology to other planets. Locate allies and trade partners.
Concept: Colonists that turned to technology to save themselves from a harsh environment and diseases that they unleashed unwittingly. Somewhat inspired by Soviet Russia, although it is capitalist with a mixed economy.
Faction Imagery: Two teal rings encircling a small sphere:Image
Ship Markings: Various teal marking that vary between ship types.
History/Description: The Lacertus Trans-humanists hail from an isolated imperial mining colony, due to the extremely harsh environment of the planet they settled, and the organisms the thrived in the warm habitat the colony provided they turned to augmenting their bodies to combat the effects of the diseases they unleashed on themselves. As the settlement grew an Imperial research station was established on the planet to study the environment – as well as engaging in experiments that many would call unethical. Eventually the colony became prosperous they became renowned for the high-quality prosthetic designs that were developed to combat the diseases of their world, drawing the interest of various trans-humanist groups that eventually settled in the system to gain access to the augments and further improve them, this struck a chord with the colonists, who were already considering upgrading and expanding the range of cybernetics available to the common citizen, even those who were uninjured. When the Lanespace Collapse began to occur the research station was evacuated and destroyed by the Imperial presence on the colony before the instabilities grew too strong to navigate, leaving the colony to its own devices. Faced with an unresponsive and uncaring government the colonists grew distrustful of the Imperial government, and when the specifics of the research done in the station were found out the colonists overthrew the Imperial presence on their world.
As Lanespace has only recently stabilised the cyborgs are concerned about expanding into neighbouring systems, but are eager to find out whether or not the Empire survived the Collapse, be warned that first contact with any group flying the Imperial flag has a good chance of turning sour.
[Note: There we go.]
[Note 2: Had a better idea.]

Faction Name: Ananke Republic of Independent Stars
Leader Name: ...
Faction Imagery:
Image
Values: Peace through superior firepower and individual rights. A large supporter of Capitalism.
Aim: Carve a niche in the universe through use of warfare and trade. Prevent a mine shaft gap.
Concept: A group of mercenaries found a system of oppressed planets and overthrew the former rules.
History/Description:
Originally settled by Chinese due to large mineral deposits and a large asteroid belt. A series of incompetent rulers resulted in a lack of mining and production, leaving the system under-developed and lacking in a large production base. Despite all the setbacks, the colony managed to provide a basic level of prosperity to the majority of the citizens. That was until the Annexation War.
The empire saw use for the large mineral deposits and set a fleet to "secure" the region. The war consisted of one battle lasting about 6 hours, resulting in the total defeat of colony forces.
When the empire began to collapse, a group of mercenaries happened upon the oppressed colony. In a battle later called the Second Annexation War, the mercenaries managed to defeat the Empire Remnant forces and free the planet. They set up a council rule system, with the mercenary leaders being the first leaders, but the rest being elected on using a system similar to the Confucian Meritocracy System.
