FighterBay Beta Release

For the nubs...

This is the latest build based off the Meta2 branch, featuring a new module, the FighterBay.

The module's EDIT tab.

Essentially a very stylish Demeter, this scratch-coded module lets you launch swarms of custom strikecraft.

Features:
- Launch fighters with simple strafing AI, with custom sprites for them and their weapons.
- Each fighter is equipped with a rudimentary "OmniGun". Choose from three different integral weapons: the Cannon, Rocket or Laser, with "simplified" stat fields for each.
- Fighters return after they run out of ammo, replenishing the module's Energy equal to their Energy Cost. Set Regen to 0 for a finite number of fighters, or set it to rebuild fighters over time.

Attached are the new EXEs, plus the test ship seen in the screenshot above. Since this is a beta release, something's almost certainly gone a bit wrong, so do post in this thread if any errors crop up.

This is exactly what WFTU needs! Downloading momentarily.

I am guessing that we are to put the .exe files in the main directory, the "Endymion" into the custom ships folder and add these sprites to our custom sprites.
Where is the sprite for the new module located? Or is it coded into the new exe?

I have found a glitch. Don't worry, its not that bad.

The in-game text in the pictures is... ...different:

....here....
....here....

...and over here.
...and over here.

There's probably more but like I said, its not a big problem really.

I noticed that the "choose mission" text has a fading effect (it repeats going down and to the right), while the missions themselves do not. I tried to load the original game to compare the texts (after quitting the new one) and the original exe will no longer leave the splash screen that shows up before the title screen.
Spoiler!

The ship maker functions fine, however I recieved error messages when trying to load my "H Talen" ship.
Spoiler!

The text in the options screen appears to be a different font than before as well. It looks smoother than the original, IIRC.

I just checked and that text is exactly the same as in the original.

Wh-What how? Recursive buggery? Could you elaborate?

Duly noted, I'll look into it.

I don't know how that slipped past me. To be perfectly honest, I don't know how it happened either, but I'll look into it.

When you click the launcher icon for the game, a small "splash screen" appears showing the name of the game while it loads. After this, the title screen will open (5 - 10 seconds for me). I waited patiently for 5 minutes before calling in the task manager to force close it. It was listed as "not responding". When I tried again with the task manager open to watch it, the game went to the "not responding" status almost immediately. There was no usual error screen to get a message, no activity, just the splash window ( like the one at the top of the forums page).

At least the new exe works okay. I guess I will use it instead.

My system note: Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1

Looks cool starstruck. I remember font problem was common in GameMaker, don't remember the exact cause though (could be that you don't have the font installed on your system).

The irony of it all is that BSF started as a game where you controlled a Hyperion (from Babylon 5) and a squadron of Starfuries.

I doubt it. Although having fighters with PD as well would be cool.

wait...

So it doesn't accept custom ships, only sprites right???
Then how the n00bs are gonna do that, any suggestions???
Pretty cool idea though, gonna download as soon as it is more stable.
