War for the Universe - planning and discussion
After hosting the first WFTU test battle I've realised that we need to decide on a few guidelines for the future battles. The test battle proved to be flawed in terms of fleet composition, faction specific lore and battle hosting. Here are a few of my suggestions on how to improve these:
. Before starting a battle, all participating factions must choose a set number of ships from certain classes for each scenario (kinda like selecting ships for BSF campaign levels)
. Set scenarios for fleet positioning EG: an ambush scenario would have the defending ships arranged in the middle of the map and the attackers from the map edge.
. A different ( preferably neuteral) host for each battle.
But these are just my ideas, other people involved should also help shape the WFTU battle experience. Or maybe some people don't want any rules at all (I am highly against this). But hopefully we can decide on a civilised way so everyone is happy.

Re: War for the Universe - Battles and guide lines
The problem is that even ship classes vary from facton to faction.

Maybe we could base it on a ships combined DPV of all its weapons :p

There are other factors too, such as speed, armor, the super-cheap ECM array calvin made, and even turret arcs.

There is indeed, really since the ships are only roughly balanced we only need to roughly compare them. We need a spreadsheet like the 'laser wars' one.

Re: War for the Universe - Battles and guide lines
Well, every faction is surely not going to battle with one another, so whatever agreements or rules need to the done (I suppose) could be done individually. I doupt that also every battle would have exactly same amount of shipsies or exactly same classes. Ratai for one has least half of its military ships under class of cruiser. I also believe that factions are conciderably larger or smaller than one another, no? Compare Miora and Ratai for example. Mioran ships are easily more powerful, no question about it, but Ratai has numerically larger fleet (Right? 26000 compared to...????)
To keep this fun, I don't think very strict rules are required. Rather, all should be based on story and... agreed before battles occur between faction makers participating.

And that is exactly the kind of input needed! Maybe before each battle we can decide on fleet compositions between the combatants.

Re: War for the Universe - Battles and guide lines
Mior has large, extremely powerful, and extremely expensive ships. They have around 3,000 military ships. Only 25 of them are Arasaw class. Mioran ships are constantly in production, although due to their size and power even a single ship takes a while.
This does not include privateers, police, battle stations, or battlements classes.

So for example: if Mior and ratai had a battle (just for example) you two would have to decide and agree on each others fleets before the battle. Yes?

*Backstabs Doogie, thus Ratai and Miora are at war.*

Or maybe not...

Yes, propably we would agree. Ratai and Miora at war however would be unlikely scenario. Whaha.

Re: War for the Universe - Battles and guide lines
The problem is that Laser Wars - WTFU's predecessor for those of you who haven't been paying attention, and where the ASDF/Kebb/GORE are from - was never intended to be anything more than some amusing fluff and pretty ships for some nice screenshots. It was never meant, I suspect, for actual battle simulations or anything.
Most 'fights' would probably be scripted and pre-arranged, and the ships there simply to provide pretty screenshots to go with fight narration.

That's exactly what this is about, but with a bit more excitement and storyline I suppose.

Re: War for the Universe - Battles and guide lines
Most important would definately be to ask what different factions would actually send into battle. For example in last battle, I certainly felt that sending two battlecarriers (without fighters) and then punch of old cruisers as escort was against what Ratai would do. Same with SAR having 3 command ships and two battleships, and nothing else.
Rather, Ratai would have tossed in single battlecarrier, whole punch of smaller ships, Destroyers and propably hammerhead frigates and possibly just one or two cruisers to stand between the carrier and enemy.
Im sure that whatever possible battles will come in future, will work better if it is discussed about in advance. Of course, tests are kk.
