Game won't start.

Post by xlucidx »

Alright, I remember being able to play this game a year ago, haven't changed my computer's specs at all.
Downloaded it again today to give it another go and it just crashes on start up.

Here's what I've got in the game_errors.log.
FATAL ERROR in
action number 1
of Other Event: User Defined 1
for object TwinAutocannon:

COMPILATION ERROR in code action
Error in code at line 27:

bullet = instance_create(x+lengthdir_x(10,image_angle-25)y+lengthdir_y(10,image_angle-25),l_bullet)

at position 61: Symbol , or ) expected.
My computer specs are as follows
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.4ghz
Geforce 7600GS 512mb
2gb ram
Windows XP SP3

I've tried redownloading and reinstalling two times.

Looks like theres a typo in code, however, if this is in the current built, it should have happened long ago for pretty much everyone who ran it. Where did you download BSF from?

Mind you, the installer does not always replace the files properly, so its a good idea to delete the BSF directory before reinstalling.

I downloaded it from here.

The zipped package, perhaps it got corrupt somehow?
I'll try the installer and report back.

edit: Just tried the installed version and the error appears the same.

Also, I thought I'd point out that your mirror links(the VictoryGames ones) for the game are both dead.[/quote]

Well i have no idea whats up with that, it works fine for me and everyone else. Im guessing its something with your system, perhaps GM doesn't like it for some reason, but i can't say what it is exactly.

Are there any frameworks or things like that that I need to maybe download?

Nope, everything should work out of the box.

The error message you posted indicates that theres a typo in code, to be specific theres a missing comma. However, ive checked the source, and everything is fine - the comma is there, and the error does not and should not happen.

This is extremely odd then.
Well, I guess I'll do without playing the game then.

Thanks anyways.

Personally I would tell you to try updating your Vid card drivers, and sound card drivers. These can cause shit like that in other programs, vid card drivers especially are bad for fucking up random things.
This is just a stab in the dark, may as well try it though, as it can't harm you... well unless the latest drivers are crap, which sometimes happens.
