Well, if it's the .dlls, just download and re-install the game. There you go.

do you think its cus im downloading from the direct link? should i download it from the zip instead? Also th15 mentioned permission issues. I know I have Windows 7 and i know that there's a lot of Admin "activate" clicking stuff that you have to do but what does he mean?

I have tried running it on the admin account and still it fails. Well see that's the problem it doesn't "fail" I CAN load it but it involves holding the "ignore" commands for over a minute....but when it loads it runs fine until i try to load a custom ship, a new game, or "ANYTHING" from the main menu...then I get the same initial error and CAN bypass it but only as before holding the ignore "command for over a minute" (at which point i don't think i mentioned the screen goes black momentarily and THEN loads.

Well so far I have been getting positive trying to help feedback and that's great guys but doesn't anyone have a way that I can fix this?? :?

thanks again!

Running on the "admin" account (which is not really the Administrator account, by the way) won't fix it. You'll need to run in Admin mode, which should require authentication. That, or you can disable UAC. Have you tried that? Have you tried starting the game from an Administrator command prompt?

god i feel like such a retard, so thanto_ I should have taken your advice to begin with, it runs like a charm. All it took was disabling the dumb@$$ UAC.

I guess the reason i hadn't tried it was because I was always under the assumption that turning it off was a tad dangerous since sometimes when i make models i accidentally write reg codes that might screw up my computer, and i do it without thinking.

One last question and then I consider this topic closed; does adding "too" many weapons cause a crash? Because when i ran XP sometimes if i added say past the 50 mark for weapons such as the grav ray and the newer guns it would come up with errors i couldnt bypass that would actually crash the game not just inconvenience me.

THANKS!!!!!!!!! :P

The more crap that's on screen that has to think, IE: weapons, PD, AI controlled ships, and the more pieces there are of each (sprites), the slower things are going to be.

Also, the UAC is pretty useless anyway. Have you ever said "no" to it? ever?

This is a 64bit machine running xp pro, no dramas at all here. perhaps an uninstall/re-install might help?
I also re-booted after downloading BSF as a matter of habit with all my installs.

Actually, BSF was developed on a WinXp64 machine. So I doubt that makes any difference. It's really probably a user permissions thing.

I can't remember whether the error message is the same but

The game fails to start whenever Anti Aliasing is enabled with my graphic card, which is a ATI graphic card. So make sure the AA, anisotropic filter settings are off.

DirectX 9 doesn't comes as default in Windows 7. Try updating graphic driver and DirectX as well, by installing this:

Do we need Visual C++ runtime redistributables and things like that?

The shipmaker requires .net framework because of the window dropping functionality.
