I have some feature requests for the next version of shipmaker:
Group rotate (It's not easy at the moment to change orientation of a whole turret section assembly)
Group move with keyboard precision nudging, or better, a group move to X, Y coordinate dialogue box.
Firing arc offset angle from the true weapon facing. (This add aesthetic in certain situation where you want weapon to face certain angle when no enemy is near, while having a realistic weapon arc)
"Hide all doodads mode" so they don't interfere with selection
Mirror sections/doodads/weapons only button
Mirror current selected section with children only
This would make shipmaking much quicker in some cases, and more enjoyable
Thanks very much.

RTFM. Both of these features already exist. Ctrl-J/L rotate the selected section and it's children. Ctrl-Shift-Arrows move the selected section and it's children.
I would add undo-mirroring to the list. Yes, I know you can do that by ctrl+z, but only if you accidentally don't change anything to the ship after mirroring.
Also, maybe mirroring by Y. Or, mirroring by a given X or Y coordinate.

Another feature that it needs:
Some way to make the core invisible, like the alpha fade. The reason I'm saying this is that I'm trying to make a ship that "activates a cloaking device" when you press the comma key, by means of every section doing a complete alpha fade when the key is pressed. I have the effect worked out, but I have the problem of the core still being there when I activate the "cloak". Turning the core black kinda works, but that doesn't help when the core passes in front of a background planet or a sun or something.
Will work for kewl sig/av

Try shrinking it to the point where it cannot be seen, and colouring it black just in case.
This would make it rather hard for the ship to eventually be destroyed, Exe, would it not? And having a ship fire endlessly at a single drifting pixel would get boring real fast...

Erm, don't see how that would help with making an invisible ship... or aiding with the destruction of said ship :S
It should give access to the alpha options, if I understand correct, it's used for making a section transparent?

Explosive sections:When destroyed, these sections create a variable explosion of size and magnitude determined by the user's settings that damages the host ship, and even nearby ships if near.
Optional feedback effect.

Oh, I see - by setting the alpha box, mirroring the ship to automatically select the core, then hitting enter and magically setting the core's alpha?
*runs off to do a little test*
Well, I can replicate your effect, but although in SM the core can be rotated and its alpha changed, once you load it in game it resets to default, so no go there
