What are you up to, th15?

Post by Normandy »

I'd really like to know. I'm requesting that you start some sort of blog to tell us your progress on BSF, Carpe Universum, as well as anything that would have any possible connection to them, such as events in real life that would delay programming, or your personal thoughts about the progression of BSF.

This would be more like an 'unofficial' news section, something not as structured or formal. It would give us something to bide on while you continue to toil away at whatever you are toiling away at.

tl;dr-ers will be shot on sight.

Just to fill people in. Go go IRC log power!

This is about two months old, FYI.
[Friday 20th] [18:16] <Arcalane> also, any news on BSF2? :V
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <th15> best case: 3 months.
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <Siber> Till news?
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <th15> but best cases are bad measures.
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <Arcalane> until we hear something or a release? :V
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <th15> umm till product. heh.
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <Siber> Aah
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <AidanAdv> Really, I thought it would take longer?
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <Siber> That sounds extraordinairly optimistic.
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <th15> its not a very advanced game, honestly
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <th15> yea, heh.
[Friday 20th] [18:17] <Siber> Don't get our hopes up like that :(
[Friday 20th] [18:18] <Siber> From the sounds of it, good netplay is never simple.
[Friday 20th] [18:18] <th15> meh, not really, problem been solved just about two zillion times by other people already
[Friday 20th] [18:18] <Arcalane> if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
[Friday 20th] [18:18] <Siber> Well, there is that.
[Friday 20th] [18:18] <th15> battleships forever just isn't the most complicated game to make
[Friday 20th] [18:19] <AidanAdv> No, he isn't reinventing the wheel
[Friday 20th] [18:19] <th15> i think that it's possible to do in 3 months
[Friday 20th] [18:19] <th15> especially since the dev won't have to wait for any design documentation and stuff to get done
[Friday 20th] [18:19] <th15> what will probably take longer is for the company to figure out what to do and start doing it
[Friday 20th] [18:19] <th15> shrug
[Friday 20th] [18:20] <Siber> Design document: "Do this again, but better"?
[Friday 20th] [18:20] <Arcalane> any news on new sections, other stuff people have been asking for? :V
[Friday 20th] [18:20] <th15> so yea, don't rely on 3 months, thta's just the absolute minimum
[Friday 20th] [18:20] <th15> shrug
[Friday 20th] [18:20] <th15> go play with spore in the meantime
I'm guessing more like four or five myself.

Huh. I was sure BSF is dead. Good 'news', i guess. Though i wish he would let us at least add our own stuff (sections, mostly) to BSF1 if hes doing a new iteration anyway, or release the source code.

Its just a question of whether that's what you want to do with your time. I'm not sure if its already been answered, but is BSF2 going to be done on game maker too?
Good lord no. BSF2 is being done in an actual language. :P

GM is good for learning about two things, in order:
1: How games generally work.
2: Not to use GM to make games (because of lag issues, among other things).

Anyone know which language it's being coded in?

I just got back from 12 days of military service (we have conscription over here, I served my two years while making BSF but we still have to go back every once in awhile for training, at least until I hit forty, which is a long way away) so nothings been happening the last two weeks.

I just got some work done on Carpe, finally got a boss-type enemy up and running. Should have the second level finished soon enough and I'll release the beta for the game then.

Well look at that. I clean up all the off-topic stuff, and this thread is back to being one page long.

Let's get back to business then, shall we?

As for the language for BSF2, either C++ or C#, depends on our target platform and the team we have.

From what I can gather, it is think it's still in the early planning stages, X-14.

So for that, there's nothing to see or download for the moment.

You mean there's a possibility of Wii/Xbox (C++/C#) release?
