Which is why you have to be rather careful about the accent you use and the kanji you use, otherwise you end up saying something entirely wrong.

The entire point of kinetic missiles is to 'self destruct' (it's more detonate, since the entire missile is a weapon) as they are designed to fragment into lots of small, extremely high health sections that will tear through an enemy ship, using BSF's collision mechanics combined with extremely high health to basically shred the target.

A stock-ish KM would be fairly weak and I can think of a quick and easy one right now (retrofit a Zelus ;)) but most KMs are made for the primary purpose of blowing big shit up. Like the Leviathan.

Using kamikaze AI or not fort a declawed ship is one of those choices you have to make - die in a blaze of glory or be cannon fodder for your comrades?

Btw, if any ship ingame loses all modules, weapons and point defense, it will automatically switch to a red K for kamikaze mode and attempt to get close to an enemy ship to self-destruct. Hopefully flinging any remaining sections it has, minus the core, at the enemy.

For making ships with kamikaze mode as a starting AI, usually you would do that for suicide ships like kinetic weapons and such. Originally, this AI was put in order to reward the guys who first made kinetic missiles, whom had to use a manual self-destruct command (Ctrl-D?) to make their missiles explode at the enemy.

Pretty cool, eh?

Bah, my original method involved clever placement of 1 health sections and point-blank weapons. My work was disgraced when Kamikaze AI came out and suddenly everyone started making missiles that looked prettier than mine (but mine were still the most functional, I suppose).

Boy, did I start a discussion. I actually thought that after reading all that everyone posted, it would be interesting to make a missile ship. I'll have to try it sometime.

The ship called the Kinetic Missile used an exposed 1HP civvie core for detonation and tiny 2000HP circles for the penetration effect. A very simple but effective design, and was supposed to detonate without any need for ctrl-D since anything that hit it would blow it up and send the shrapnel forwards towards the ship that hit it. That was before Kamikaze AI of course.

Random Trivia: First recorded use (on BSF) of the term Kinetic Missile? That idea isn't too different from the current implementations either.

Eh? That's when it was first used?

I originally called my original kinetic missile a suicide ship, until someone pinned 'kinetic missile' (I think it was Danny420Dale, but it might be Natch) onto it.

That would be me, the Kinetic Missile was my take on the suicide ship business.
