Unable to open shipmaker

Post by CheesyErwin »

I had recently fomatted my computer(And reinstalled a Windows XP), and re-installed the Battleships Forever. However, when I am trying to open the Ship Maker, a dozen of error messages pops up and then it crashed(Access Violation Error), and I don't know what the problem is, can anyone help?

Im no expert, but Access Violation Error sounds like you're not using an Administrator account, which I think is required for BSF.

Could be wrong tho.

there is a specific directory it must be installed to on vista. I don't remember off the top of my head, but it should be in the readme.

There is a way to get around this though. I never really installed it, I'm just running it straight out of the folder, and it doesn't seem to care where it goes.

That said, CheesyErwin: Does it work if you download the zip and run it straight from the folder? I've found it sometimes behaves a little more nicely for me that way.

I tried it, but it doesn't work, the same error pops up.

Sorry for a double post... but can anyone give me some advice on this problem?

Here's a screenshot of the problem:
(There are two variants of it)

Try checking the game_errors.txt and log.txt file. If it says anything useful then tell us what it says.

Looks like a bad install or corrupt data. Try reinstall.

I rarely had such a problems before, it appears only when I open the shipmaker

And this is what I got from the error_log.txt:

Code: Select all

ERROR in
action number 1
of Key Press Event for E-key Key
for object obj_sidebar:

Error in function real().
