I've been messing around with shipmaker, and happened to notice that some sprites had darker bits than others. I was wondering if you could make these different sections different colors, instead of using teamstripes? Or if this could be implemented someway.

It's very possible, but incredibly restricting, as you can't get rid of that color in any way.
IIRC, jwa's edits did this quite a bit, but he specialized his sections specifically for his Star Wreck project. Serithi did something similar a while back, where he actually cut out all but the tiny little strips on popular shiny sections so you could implement them as colored highlights or something. I think that's probably the best method.

He also had some nice weapon sprites. I should find them.
