Zalausai's Sprite Work

Post by Zalausai »

I don't know if this is against the rules or not, but. . .
I am working with the HM_Stone sprites.
My goal is to give them a more rough stone look instead of the smooth one that they have now without causing a loss to the quality.

I am open to critiques on the process. They are currently all done and ready.

I think the grain filter that I guess you put over it flattens out the details too much, and you should probably rework those detail bits a little to help them stand out again.

Might be a good idea to ask HM for permission to rework his sprites like this, too.

That's actually quite nifty. I like it, but you might want HM's permission first.

I sent a PM. I'll continue working until I get a response, but won't make a release unless I get permission.

Oh by the way, on that circle section I'd suggest darkening the region around the edges; it'll help with the flatness look.

Permission declined. Project canceled.
I am thinking of working with TSA's Ukrai sprite set instead, but how do I get permission from someone who hasn't been here in awhile. It would serve the same purpose, but will take a lot more work.

Why not attempt some sections of your own, rather than working from pre-existing material?

I will try to design some sections inspired by these two sets then. They will have the filter, because I'm going for a stone look. Shiny sections have the smooth look and dst_swnc has the industrial look. They won't be as good, but it should fill the very small niche at least. I should have one by tomorrow. With my graphic arts experience, they can't be too bad.

I tried. It's supposed to hold two round sprites. Very limited use compared to the other planned sprites. Armor plating can be placed on its flanks.
Remember, I am going for a rough stone ancient look with these sprites.
Sadly, I am unsure if it is completley centered.

Looks centered to me. Its not the sort of sprite I would use but its very well done!

That wouldn't necessarily be a sprite that has to be centered. I like it, but would only use it as a decor section or a spindly bit on a wing.

Still working on the sprite project.

Current sprites (doing generic shapes first)

I'm not sure how useful these sprites will be; they don't fit with current sprite styles.
What we do need is more antennae, tubes like that SS_prosectionax sprite and the like. Shinyfiying Xor_sec could be useful.

Like has already been said, we need sprites that are meshable (is that even a word?) with the current kae_shn and DST. I especially agree that we need more antennas/radar dish like sprites and more pipes and wire detailed sections. They are nice but I would find it difficult to implement them.

Also, Happy B-day Zal!
