Melee Weapon Concept

I have an idea for a melee weapon that could be used in the game. Not the graphic yet, but mechanics yes.
It would have to be a module, not a weapon.
Its damage would be based on its energy charge.
It will activate automatically when colliding with a section (not bullets or anything intercept-able, so it can still be destroyed)
Note: It wouldn't destroy asteroids, since they are not part of ships.
It would subtract its energy reserves and inflict that value as hit point damage to the target section that it is touching at that instant of over a duration.
Ex: All energy at once for damage or energy deducted per frame at a set rate for damage.
Its damage would be determined by it's charge size and recharge rate.
It could glow like the "shock beamer" when full charged and able to inflict damage.
Notes for limitations.
Cannot deal damage unless energy is at 100%
Cannot stop discharging until energy is at 0% (even if no longer touching a target)
Low HP.
Does not move, dependent on ship's hull only.
It's just a simple rendering, but it works for this weapon proposal.
