Son Tzus' shiny windows

Post by Son Tzu »

This is a small set of sprites modified (with Kaelis' kind permission) in order to be used as window overlays (except 122, that's for putting warning stripes on) with the Kae_shn set. I've kept the numbers of the sprites the same as the originals so it's easy to tell which one they go with.

Unzip it into your custom sprites folder, the folder name for the sprites should be Son_shn. Guess this proves that the son shines out of Kaelis' sprites...
More windows, this time original creations (I hope). Also, some miscellaneous stuff, kinda on the lines of some stuff Starstruck made but I can't find it so I made my own.

Thanks! If anybody has any advice on keeping the filesize down in png images I'd appreciate it. Even though there's less detail than the sections they're based on, I noticed that they're almost twice the bitcount.

Have you tried using an Indexed colour palette to reduce the colour information in your PNGs to the bare necessity?

Indexed Mode is usually found alongside other modes like RGB, grayscale and so forth.
Realism, seriously? It's a space ship game. Realism was thrown out the window a long time ago.

I've compared filesizes Squishy, you shave off maybe a few bytes per image.

That said, try resaving them in a different program - if you're using MSPaint for the editing I have no doubt it's compression/saving whatsits are a complete pile of shite, and you're better off using something like IrfanView, or maybe Paint.net/GIMP for editing.

Arcalane, u r da bom! :D
Downloaded IrfanView and GIMP (worried what I'd get when I typed that into my search engine  ). Did a little experiment, here are the results. Kaelis original file size: 577 bytes. Re-saved MSpaint edit using IV: 945 bytes. Re-saved MSpaint edit using GIMP: 977 bytes. Edit using IV: 924 bytes. Edit using GIMP: 269 bytes. Only trouble with GIMP is with it being professional grade software most of it goes way over my head. The last time I did any sprite editing was using SEUCK (Shoot 'Em Up Construction Kit) on the ZX Spectrum in the early eighties. Then I discovered girls...
EDIT: Forgot to include MSpaint edit filesize - 1077 bytes
