Hydrovian People's Navy

Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.

Hydrovian People's Navy

Post by The Hydro »

Greetings, people of the Wyrdysm.com forums! After years of off and on playing this most excellent of games, I have decided it is high time that I posted a design or two.

Edit: Didn't realize the screenshot goofed, so here:

Welcome to the forums! Your first design is great--at least to me, an amateur designer who is just starting to tell the sprite-packs apart, lol. The only "critique" I would have at this point, and feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but the general consensus around here is that mixing sprite-packs doesn't look too good...near the rear of your ship, unless I'm off, looks like you're mixing kaelis sections with shiny sections. But, they're your ships, and your style will be your own. And, like I said--great design!

Thanks, man. Though it would seem I fried the graphics card in this computer last night, so I'm stuck with some old 16MB nVidia card. Don't think it'll run the game.

That's a shame. You showed a great start. The main problem with the ship though was the mixture of shiny and the lower detailed SW sprites. I hope you get your computer sorted out.

Yeah, I like to mix parts. Feels more... I don't know, post-apocalyptic maybe? I guess I just like to pretend my ships are modified civilian hulls pulled outta junkyards. Hey, there's an idea...

Hopefully my situation will be rectified soon. As it stands, money is getting to be hard to come by.

Also happy nineteenth, Doog.

Edit the First: Well, shipmaker runs. Slower than normal, but it'll do. Gonna see about building another ship. Probably something fast.

Edit the Second: Alpha version of new ship, as well as a scale comparison with the Naglfar

I take it that ship is either breathtakingly magnificent or unspeakably horrid.

Anywho, new ship. Not really a class this time, more like something found in a scrapyard and brought back to spaceworthy condition. Got a Vulcan on either side angled twenty degrees off the bow with thirty degrees traverse to either side, and a dorsally mounted fusion beam with three hundred and sixty degrees of traverse. Probably going to name it "Fenrir" but I'm open to suggestions.

Also while I'm here, is there a way to set weapons so they have more traverse to one side than the other?

Oh hey, you edited that post. Didn't see the new ship (in the future you could probably just post again, we're pretty lenient about bumps when they add content).
That one is nifty and solid and quite well put together. All around good job.
The new one is also nice and nifty, but due to it's small size there's not really a whole lot to judge.

Yeah, I like smaller ships. Going to see about making something bigger tomorrow. But for now it is bed time.

Well, found out about the ~ + 1-4 thing. Was wondering why so many sections were missing.

Came up with a larger hull. No weapons yet, but I think it looks alright...

Nifty, the sections are well placed together and there isn't much wrong with it, my only complaint are those thrusters but i won't dwell on it.

So we both like junk placed-together-parts post-apocalyptic ships :D well if you do want to get that feel you might as well play with colors, layering and grunge.

For future reference, don't use the thruster flares like that. It tends to look kind of silly. You could use a glowball to simulate the engine glow, and then when the ship actually moves you could have a thruster attached to that.

Thought they looked a bit wonky myself, actually...

Now, about these 'glowballs'. Are they sprites, and if so what sprite pack are they in?

Edit: Unless this is it

I use DDC flares, but that works too.
