Indeed, it's a very pretty ship. Seems a bit flat though, you need to apply more depthing.
You should also note that sonar does not actually work in space.

Not to burst your bubble but, the Novians are kinda water based.

But this is a non DGW faction I think.

Bro. I don't have to make the most perfect, realistic faction out there, I would like too, but I can't. Some things will fuck reality in the face, and some will not. So what if sonar doesn't work in space, most people don't know that.

/\ Sonar could work in space if you used a different energy wave other than sound, although the whole idea is impractical.

Re: Leaping Waters WIP
^Then it isn't Sonar.
Although it would work in most orbits (since atmosphere exists a loooooooong way out into what we call space) or in a gas giant. Perhaps you could write that in to your story?
Another thing would be to have the ships double as undersea vessels, kind of like the Antedilluvians over on the Starsector forums.
As to the ships, well done. You have a style that is incredibly diverse and can use multiple section types, whereas I can only work with shiny to save my life.

We call that radar or lidar. My ships use hyperspectral imagers spanning radio to gamma-ray wavelengths integrated with gravimetric and dark-matter detectors, along with UAVs also fitted with these sensors and interferometric networking. I'm pretty sure the onboard microphones have an ad-hoc backscatter sonar capability within an atmosphere in a pinch, last I checked.

Re: Leaping Waters WIP
So ideas so far:
1. Use sonar to "check" planets from long distances away.
2. Their ships double as undersea vessels.
3. Radar capabilities.
Here is what I'm thinking.
They hover over a planet within it's atmosphere, use sonar (I was thinking like a really badass low pitched sound, like the Tri-pods from WotW.) to detect stuff, then when they see it's safe or something, they go into "dive mode" and undersea travel is a go, this is when the sonar comes into play.
So far so good?

Why don't you use space telescopes to "check" planets?
Of course that won't sound like advanced tech.

Re: Leaping Waters WIP
Because that's his concept. From what I understand, it's that his race didn't invent telescopes at all, so it's just a different tech advancement path.
Re: Leaping Waters WIP
^Telescopes would have been invented by virtually any bipedal race. Almost any spaceship would have a sort of long-range scanner, but with the storyline he's taking they are accustomed to being in low visibility/fluidic areas.

Re: Leaping Waters WIP
You could have diving bell things attached to your craft on very long tethers that drop into the planets atmosphere from geo-stationry orbit (kinda like Romulin drill from the star trek film).

Re: Leaping Waters WIP
You could do that, but I was trying to keep to the waterborne craft analogies.
