First Ships Using Shiny Sprites

First Ships Using Shiny Sprites

Post by Happycake »

Hello Everyone.

This the first ship I've made using the " Kaelis Shiny Sprites" pack. I would appreciate any criticism regarding the design/sprite usage of my ship. I haven't added many weapons yet, so any suggestions about weapon placement(s) would also be nice. I wasn't sure whether this belonged in the "help" section or the "Custom ships section", so please inform me if this thread is out of place.

Not as much as you think. Its a strong design with good section work. Add a splash of colour and dab some doodads and you could have a good ship!

Also you can take screenshots by hitting f9 and dragging a box around the selected area. But make sure to hit f11 and home first!

@Doogie: I have a ported mac version, remember :)? The screenshot function doesn't seem to work. I have to use the default "Grab" mac application in order to get a screenshot.

Any suggestions regarding weapon placement? I was hiding missile launchers and small turrets in the "wing" sections, but I couldn't find any other areas where I could place turrets/weapons/

A spine mounted weapon perhaps? or even nose guns, most of my ships are built around weapon placement so I don't often experience this problem :P

Alright...I followed Necrontyr1998's advice and built a ship around a spinal mounted weapon. I also wrote some sci-fi fluff for it. I would appreciate any critic regarding the ship, regardless of how harsh it is. Coloring suggestions would also be appreciated. I'm using a ported version, so I can't take a proper screenshot. Sorry.

Even if you're using grab feature, you should still be able to reset the zoom before taking screenshots.

As for the ship itself,
1) It's nice and sleek.
2) I think the current colour scheme is fine.

The main reason that I find this better than your first ship is that there is a better transition between your sections.
If you look at your first ship, the transition from the main body to the wing strut and again from the wing strut to the wing is abrupt and awkward. This ship does away with that to a certain degree and is a step in the right direction.

On the other hand, I don't think you've successfully pulled off having darker sections over brighter ones.
While it's possible to pull it off, this isn't one of those cases (Though you've gotten quite close with the wings.)
I also think the back is a bit long, but that's a relatively minor nitpick.

I acctualy really like it as it is. I especially like the 'wing' bits, gives it a real sleek look.

@ Netharis: Thanks for the Advice. I tried using the drag feature in grab. The screenshots all came out black. I have no idea why.

I'll probably revise this ship a bit.
