I've been a bit of a lurker as I'm following arts school, trying the game industry.

Around 3 years ago, on highschool some close friends of mine played this game and I always saw them playing around with the shipmaker here and then I don't really know their usernames, I do know that they posted a lot of the forums and probably have been banned from it, my friendship ended with them after school as they turned into childish obstacles.

Still watched this forum and see great spaceships fly by, I was astounded seeing this game grow

Thought myself, why not give it a shot, as I also study to draw spaceships?


Ah well here's a try, might be that i ripped off other famous shipbuilders's techniques by seeing their work Sorry if i did.

It's not terrible, but it uses really outdated sections that are vastly inferior to the Shiny sections most people use now. Still, it's not bad at all. Welcome to the forums.

The ship isn't bad at all for the sprites used, personally I hate those weapon sprites though. The coloration is good, the shape is interesting and there's a good use of doodads.
But they are just good, I reckon you can do better.

Welcome new meat new member! It's perfectly fine to ripoff be inspired by others' work, as long as you don't copy section-for-section and at least credit them. I can't really add to what the others have said; the sections are outdated by even SW-style standards however I do like the shape. Like Anna said, get the fancy Shiny sections.

That's an improvement, but not a huge one. Shiny sections need practice, lots of practice. And you seem to have quite the head start.

Try to use DST_swnc, I find them really easy to use.

Except don't make whole ships out of nothing but DST_swnc because it results in lazy shipbuilding and over-dependence.

It's only an insult if you want it to be. Anna was just saying to not depend on DST sections.

It wasn't intended as one, no. You are one of the few people who is capable of making things that are largely good with only DST sections, though I do think you'd improve if you expanded your repertoire to include Shiny sections as well. There have been other members who used only DST sections and it results usually in people lazily slapping sections together and ending up with big greebly messes. DST are generally just not good used alone. They need to be combined with other sections to be used to their full effect.
